Thinking About Sprint/Verizon Mifi: 250MB Enough?

So i'm kinda nuts on the whole emailing, IM'ing and social networking and i always feel like i need to be connected to the internet wherever i go. I have thought of getting a data only plan for a phone but people suggested i go for the Sprint or Verizon Mifi hotspot device. i use a macbook and a ipod touch but i would only see using the macbook and Mifi for night time communication (dad has a tendency to shut the internet off for some stupid reason) and i would use the iPod touch for on-the-go email and IM.

My question is, if the 250MB plan is enough or should i go for the 5GB plan. I don't plan on going on youtube or hulu, just strictly my Gmail, AIM, Facebook and Myspace. Thanks!

You can't just talk to your dad and work something out as far as not shutting the internet off? Getting mifi is going to be a lot more expensive than even offering to pay part of your monthly internet bill.

I struggle to keep under my 5gb monthly cap, of course I stream video now and then
