As far as protecting the screen from scratches and such a screen protector can definitely be a good idea. But right now it looks like there’s a known issue with screen protectors on the mini that people are discussing here...

If you’re using a case hold off fitting your screen protector just yet. Quite a few posts and topics on here and elsewhere about an issue with Lock Screen swiping issues with a screen protector fitted on the mini devices.

With the new flat screen on the iPhone 12, screen protectors are easier than ever to install and barely noticeable if you get a decent edge to edge one (Amazon has many options).

This is a very personal decision.

Over time a few little scratches bother me less than a screen protector and i would always go without.
I want to enjoy the phone now and not preserve it for someone else.

My guess is you're not using a case or if you are using a case it has cutouts for the ports, is that right? If any part of your hand touches the body of the phone the screen protector is not an issue. I'm ordering a Pitaka case for that reason.

It is purely a matter of preference. I personally rock my iPhone 12 Pro max without any cases or screen protectors. I do have Apple Care though.
