I just switched from a 2015 MBP 13" to the new 2019 MBP 13" and so far I'm very happy about it.
I sold my previous MBP to an happy buyer , but I wouldn't buy one for me, unless you are planning to replace the battery with a new one.
Mine was at 82% battery health...
Same as me. Had the 2015 MBP 13" with force touch track pad and upgraded it to 2019 13" 4TB3 Port 2.8 ghz i7 qc, with 16 GB Ram and 1 TB storage and absolutely love this machine. My old one did had 82%-83% battery health as well. I sold that to my friend and he's very content with it. He had the 2013 MBA.

I'm spending my first extra money on my 2015 (I bought enough storage/RAM to start with). A battery replacement.

My previous 2010 I ended up adding memory and a SSD.

I had bought and used the 15" 2019, 13" 2017 and a 15" 2016 briefly.
They are nice looking machines and have snappy performance but you must be doing certain tasks that take advantage of the speed boost namely video, photography work. I wasn't and maybe you aren't either!
There are also reliability issues and are costly especially up here in Canada.
So I went back to the good old reliable last generation 2015 model with dGPU.
Why?
Reduced cost.
Superior engineering and solid design with plenty of usable ports and a wonderful performing keyboard. The mag-safe power adaptor. Completely reliable, can't say the same with the newer versions...
A pinnacle of an Apple designed notebook with no compromises.

I have to admit that I use the 2019 with more care than the 2015.

I never went hard with keys or eaten over any laptop, but the 2019 looks like you have to use it into a laboratory to avoid dust, particles and human breathing.

With 2015 I was more carefree.

I'd look on eBay or Swappa deall. $2000+ at this time is a ridiculous amount to pay for that laptop. Look at physical condition, if the battery has been replaced, screen delamination, etc. before buying. I got the 2.8 1TB external gfx model for $1300 on eBay and it doesn't have a scratch on it and the battery was just freshly replaced. Due to the recall many of the 2015's have brand new batteries as well.

If it was well taken care of it will last several years. Apple is still selling them on their refurbished site (for a ridiculous price) but they give the option for Apple Care which means they will be supporting that model for at least another 3 years. If I get 3 more years out of my 2015 I'll be more than happy.

Yes, is a ridiculous amount, BUT:

1. You have warranty; you paid 1300 for a used one, but if something expensive breaks in the next year (screen, logic?) you´ll have to pay maybe 400/500 dls for the repair.

2. If you can reduce tax or someone can do it for you, the cost is a little more friendly (here in Spain TAX is 21% and deductible so the 2000 dls laptop costs 1650, once you recover the tax already paid).

I bought a 2015 in January and am very happy with it. I also have a 2014 and use the two of them together. They aren't as fast as modern systems but I can live with that. There are 2015s for sale which are priced moderately higher than what I would pay for them but prices fluctuate so sometimes you can find a faster one at a decent price.

Very valid points, and the warranty no doubt does drive the price up. But Apple is charging $2500 for the 2015 model. for that price you can get a refurb 2019 model with better specs, twice the memory, and the same amount of storage. They either think that they are that close in performance to justify that price, or they know that people prefer those models and charge almost double what its actually worth.

There are two of those for sale in my local area. One in my town for $1,500 and another 50 miles away for $1,400. They are asking what the stores ask. But the stores give you a 1-year warranty and they stand behind their product. So there's a private sale, and I'd expect the price to be a lot lower, a local Mac store - where the price would be higher but they'd provide a warranty, and then Apple where you get their gold-standard warranty, and access to the Apple Store and basically a brand new machine.

I don't disagree that the warranty is excellent, but Apple is charging nearly a $1000 premium for just a 1 year warranty, and an additional $350 if you want to extend that warranty. To me that's ridiculous.

I at one point purchased the top of the line 2015 model from their refurbished site. I came to my senses and returned it and decided I would buy one somewhere else in hopes I could find a good model at a much lower price. It took a little searching, but I found one that has zero signs of use and is indistinguishable from new. Its missing the warranty, but I'll take my chances at nearly $1800 less money when all is said and done buying directly from Apple.

I wouldn't pay it but there are obviously people that would so the machine has that amount of value for them. Value is different for every person. If you make a living or a lot of money with your MacBook Pro, then it could be worth it to you. It is not worth it to me knowing that I have local options if I want a machine like that.

I agree, but I think value can be debatable. Just because someone has the money to throw at a machine like that, doesn't mean they should. When I purchased mine from Apple I could have chosen any model I wanted from them and the 2015 is what I wanted. But when it came down to value, to me paying $3000 for that model (with AppleCare) didn't make sense to me. I would rather pay half that and if I have a problem, I have a problem. Odds are it will be fixable for still less than what it cost on Apple's site to purchase the computer. Again, just shooting the breeze with you as I don't disagree with what you are saying.

Some people like not having any dings and scratches on their machines. That may have some value to them as well. I bought one with a bang on the corner and a gouge on the side. I just need something that works. I personally am looking at the Dell Precision 7740 if and when I have to upgrade.

I am one of those people. I won't buy one that has any scratches or dents on it. That's why I said you have to look around and find the right one that you want. The eBay seller I purchased from has a flawless track record so I knew that what I was getting was legit. And it looks and feels brand new and has a brand new battery in it. For $1300 I feel like I got a good deal. No warranty, but I'll take my chances as there is no way this thing was used very much in the condition that it is in.
