The WiFi issue is limited to the iOS 4.2 GM release. iOS 3.2.2, which is what the iPad ships with, does not have the issue.

I would highly suggest you wait. The next generation will be a good one. That's always the way it goes with Apple. Their 2nd gen products are great. You'll be so glad you waited. I just sold mine, once the new ones are announced the used prices will take a hit. It's always like that.

If You're enough of a connoisseur to be able to appreciate the new features in the next gen iPad (at a minimum more RAM, cameras ( FaceTime) , most likely lighter) then you should wait.
However, if you just want one for the heck of it and could get great use out of it now, then go ahead and buy. I've had mine now for about 3 months, and absolutely love it.

iPad wifi is as fast as a notebook, much faster than mobile phones. Get one now my friend.
