I have had the MK for about a week now. The MK does make the iPad into a great laptop. For actually using it on the lap for typing, there is no substitute and no comparison with the Keyboard Folio. BUT, it does bother me endlessly that one cannot use the iPad as a tablet with the MK attached. I always have to take it off and leave it on a table, sofa, bed... and then leave it open there for easy re-attachment. With the SKF I have the option of using it with the SKF attached or naked. And the SKF lies flat when detached. How do you solve that issue? I have been trying for a week to get used to it. Then there is also the weight, but that bothers me less.

So, I’m leaning towards returning the MK.

I have never bothered with anything that attaches directly to the iPad.... With my iPad Pro right now I am sitting out on my deck, the iPad Pro on a stand on the table as I type on an Apple external BT keyboard. This gives me the freedom to move the iPad or the keyboard around as needed for an optimal typing angle, and when I’m finished, the two items go off to their separate regular homes as needed. That said, I don’t take the iPad Pro 3rd generation out of the house very often; it pretty much remains at home, as I have an iPad Mini 5 for traveling and also a 12” MacBook, too, when more than just iOS is needed for some reason.

I have had my MK about a week as well, and to be honest I can't dream of any reason to return it. It bothered me at first having to remove it when using it as a tablet, but it's so easy to reattach. I have used the SKF before and just didn't care for it. It seemed cheap to me. The MK is well built and typing has been a pleasure. The ONLY issue I have with the MK is that there is no secure way to have the pencil on there. Before I got the MK I had the Dux case from the Apple Store and the pencil snapped right in while still being able to charge.

Today I returned the SKF and picked up the MK. I'm really enjoying it and love that I can easily detach it when I want to use it in tablet mode. Although expensive, I feel that it brings another of usability that feels natural and not tacked on.

I should specify I have the 11”. I think the 12.9” has always been more of a landscape device, while 11” is more of a portrait device, more tablet, less laptop.

Yes, easy to detach, but then you have to leave the keyboard somewhere. I’m trying a different way: now when I want to use the iPad as a tablet, I open the keyboard side of the MK slightly and pull out the iPad. At least that way you don’t have the open MK sitting somewhere. But it is slightly difficult to pull out that way. Still have about a week to decide.

14 days is up. And... I decide to keep the MK, after all. At the one week mark, I was very much in doubt.

The deciding factor is that in the last week I have gotten the hang of the mechanics of using the iPad as a tablet with the MK. Now I always open upwards the keyboard side of the MK, while the iPad is on the bottom. Even opening the MK a little, it is easy to pull out the iPad by pushing through the camera opening. It is also easy to put the iPad back, easier than when the MK is open with the keyboard at the bottom. If I want to use the iPad as laptop, I just open completely. I still have to leave the MK beside me when using the iPad as tablet, but because it’s lying flat it is less obtrusive and more stable.

I still have to deal with the MK weight, but it’s OK.
