After using the Magic Keyboard for a week. I love it.. and I hate it. It’s great for some uses, and the keyboard is out of this world perfect. However, the trackpad just isn’t cutting it for me. I don’t really need it I guess.. and I am getting wrist fatigue from using it. So I am thinking of taking it back and picking up the Logitech MX Master 3 mouse to pair with my Apple Smart Keyboard folio.

Does anyone have this mouse and use it with their iPad? If so, what is your experience?

I do and I like it - it’s a good pairing with the folio keyboard, though I don’t use it that much at the moment (been in lockdown since ios13.4, so iPad is more for sofa surfing at the moment). I also have the anywhere 2s which is a better fit size wise - it’s a great mobile mouse, the only issue is it’s microusb not usb-c.

I love the keyboard, you can’t get much better on a tablet keyboard. But, keeping it just for the keyboard is not worth it by a long shot, due to the price. I could live with the Smart Keyboard and a really good mouse (which I can also use with my iMac and replace my Magic Mouse). I have until 3/31 to return the Magic Keyboard, so I have some time...

I have the MX Master 3 and I find it disappointing on the iPad Pro. The side buttons don’t do forward/back and the wheel click doesn’t do “middle click”. Wheel scrolling is jerky both with and without the ratchet. Horizontal scroll wheel does nothing. Assistive Touch doesn’t help. I’d be happy to be corrected but that mouse will do no more than a basic Bluetooth one.

No I actually can confirm lol... I received the mouse yesterday. It is pretty nice on my iMac, but as you said, a bit janky on the iPad Pro. My understanding is all third parties are this way, and there is no smooth scrolling unless you have the Magic Mouse (which I do as well and it’s smooth as butter). So I am just wondering if its worth keeping the mouse now? If the problem is Apple’s and if they will release some sort of fix for third party mice? It would be in their best interest to...

I'm using the Master 3 with my 12.9 Pro and really like it. All 3rd party mice are seeing issues with scrolling smoothness. I switch the mouse between the iPad and a docked laptop. It was an upgrade form the Anywhere 2S and worth it to me. (The horizontal scroll wheel works on my iPad). I also have the Magic Trackpad 2 but find I prefer the Master 3.

It seems you HAVE to have that annoying assisted touch icon turned ON, in order to customize the buttons on the third party mice? I cannot find a way to customize the buttons and keep assistive touch OFF. Any solution?

No, you need it on.

Apple needs to clean up the mouse/trackpad implementation. They should consolidate all of the controls under a single menu heading and decouple it from AssistiveTouch if it's truly meant to be mainstream. And fix the issues with non-Apple devices, e.g. smooth the scrolling of 3rd party mice.

Any specific reason why you don’t want to leave assistive touch on? There is no visible assistive touch icon on the screen (think there might‘ve been in the past). I‘ve just added the Logitech i345 mouse to my repertoire, turned on assistive touch to customize the scroll wheel ‘click’ and I see no visible difference vs. when I was just using the Magic Keyboard.

And yes, I’m the weirdo that uses both a trackpad and mouse in my computing—love the setup on my iMac (left-hand is on a Magic Trackpad 2 for gestures, right-hand using MX Master 3 mouse) and while I love having the trackpad on the Magic Keyboard, I find the smaller size more limiting for cursor control (great for gestures) so I now have the same setup as an option on my iPP 12.9.

And I’ll reaffirm other experiences with scrolling on third party mice...it’s certainly not as smooth as with Apple’s own hardware, but I find it perfectly fine.

Unless I’m doing something wrong, the assistive touch “button” did stay on. It’s not large and I could move it to wherever, but it’s annoying enough to make me turn it off. How did you get that assistive touch button to turn off, while keeping assistive touch on?

Under AssistiveTouch, do you have "Always Show Menu" enabled?

@sparksd is spot on. Make sure that is toggled off.

‘Do you get full navigation with the 2s? Can you program the buttons?

With assistive touch on, I find that the mouse curser is bigger, even when made the smallest it can be, but also and mainly, it functions a bit differently from the 'normal' implementation.. it doesn’t turn into the icon is rolling over, it doesn’t form a text bar, etc etc.

it’s very annoying as the other benefits are great, but not sure they outweigh basic text editing functionality.
With assistive touch I can programme all the buttons on my Mx anywhere 2, I have set up hot corners, I like the fact that clicking and dragging works like your finger swiping the screen.. I just feel like I’m missing out hugely for not having the text selection functionality, etc. No idea at all why they just don’t consolidate it all to one pane.

Odd - there is zero size difference in my cursor with AssistiveTouch on or off. Checked with Logitech MX Anywhere 2S, MX Master 3 and Magic Trackpad 2. I agree that they need to clean up the controls - consolidate them under a single menu heading.

Same here. You’d never know I had it enabled unless you went in CC or settings. FWIW, here are my Assistive Touch settings. Make sure Always Show Menu is toggled off.

Same.
Don’t get it at all. Remember the assistive touch before we had mouse support? Mine reverts to that once I turn it on, losing any sign of the changes the official support bought with it.

Does the MX Master 3 give the warning about causing wireless interference? I've gotten that on my other Logitech mice.

It does on my 10.5 Pro but not the 2018 12.9 Pro. My guess is Bluetooth version - the 12.9 Pro and the Master 3 are Bluetooth 5 while the 10.5 Pro is Bluetooth 4. The Anywhere 2S has the warning on both iPads.
