You'll probably get a good price for it since you're one of the earlier adopters who've maintained the unlimited 3G data plan, but seriously your complaints are minuscule and will most likely be remedied when the new iOS releases.

My advice would be to keep the device at least until the details for the iPad 2 are unveiled and purchase a netbook for the time being. You'll soon realize that those peeves are mere gripes.

Apple can explore other type of display technology to remove the use of glass in their iPads where weight is of paramount importance. Glass is one of the heaviest elements in iPad. Apple should continuously strive to shed more & more weight from their handheld line-up. There is a company called Pixel Qi which produces matte-like display technology that has unsurpassed capability to maintain contrast under direct sunlight. Google "Pixel Qi youtube"

1. Pixel Qi is not as scratch resistant as glass.
2. It is not capacitive which means multitouch would be awkward at best.

I'm gonna wait till 4.2 and see if it brings refresh joy in the iPad. If not, it will hit the Marketplace here. Thank you everyone for your feedback on this topic.

I bought the iPad the day it came out. Lately, I have not been using it as much and I'm paying $30 a month to keep the unlimited 3G. What bothers me about the iPad are the following.

- too heavy to hold long time
- back hurts from slouching over with iPad on lap
- can't type fast on it without a keyboard
- don't have full Safari, not same experience on a Mac
- screen is not as vivid as my iPhone 4

I am thinking of selling it and get the next 11" MacBook Air. Currently, I don't need a MacBook Air, but I would like to see what comes with the next 11"; maybe with 3G support? I alone with this feeling.

If the iPad is too heavy for you, the MBA might smother you.

If you think that 1.6 pounds is too heavy.....not sure how getting a 2.3 pound device will help that.

Since you asked for advice.....if the iPad is not for you then get rid of it. If it is just that you don't want to pay $30 a month, every month for a service you don't use, then cancel that service. Don't slouch when using it if it hurts your back, plenty of ways to use it and not slouch.

I agree the experience with safari is not the same as the laptop, it is better IMO.

But overall if it isn't for you then don't use it. Sell it or give it to someone that will get good use from it.

I think the logic goes as follows: 1.6 pounds is too heavy for holding it any significant amount of time. If computer requires some support for using it, then it does not really matter how much it weighs 1.6 or 2.3 or 5 pounds.

Considering I carry my iPad around quite a bit and use it while standing, it is much better to have 1.5 ( I have the wifi one) than 2.3 or in my case 5.5 pounds. Which is also why I don't get the it's too heavy comments, but I am probably used to it by now. It holds all the info for each of my projects and has made it so I am almost paperless. It is also why I got the iPad though.

In answer to the OP asking about using it as much as we thought or did at first....I use it for a lot more than I thought I would. Almost all the time unless drafting, editing video, or using Photoshop. But even then I still use it for reference. And I do most of my forum browsing and posting from it.

I find it very portable/mobile and have it with me most of the time. I have a mifi that I use with it and my laptop, so I only pay for one mobile internet service. Tom Bihn bag for when I only need the iPad, and can carry other stuff in it as well.

But I have also spent a some time getting it set up the way I want so it does what I need it to for work. As well as spending some money on apps that help make that possible. Which for me has made it an invaluable tool. For the OP it seems it is not the device for them. As I have said to my friends that ask about it...if you go to a lot of flash heavy sites the iPad isn't for you.

My only other suggestion for the OP is, if you are on the fence, write out what you want the device to do for you as well as how and where you want to use it. Then see if there is a way for the iPad to do all of that and if you truly can live without flash (seems from your post the answer to the last is no). Ask here about specific things you want to do with it and see what others have done. Then if you still feel it won't work for you sell it or give it away. Because in the back of my mind I think you don't want to admit it wasn't right for you, which if that is so..I can't blame you. It is a good chunk of money to get one, so you want it to be something that works for you. But if the 11" MBA is more suited to your needs, then by all means trade out for it. Get what works for you and your needs.

And yes I typed this on the iPad ;)

Nope. The new owner has to apply for a new service.

Sell it to the new owner, and add $360 dollars to the price to cover one year of unlimited service and keep the 3G acct on your cr card. That way he gets unlimited, and you are not out any money. Maybe he will ask you to extend after a year - and prepay you, of course.
Question to others - the service can be cancelled without the iPad in hand, can't it?

You don't hold a computer like you hold a tablet.

1.5lbs is heavy for an oddly shaped tablet like the ipad. Try holding it directly in front of your eyes with one hand for 15 minutes if you think it isn't.
