Thinking of sticking a DVD-RW in my iMac G4

I have an old G4 700MHz with cd-rw only. Would it be easy to exchange the drive for a dvd-rw instead? As the prices are falling, and more and more stuff come on dvd's, I'm thinking I'll have to do this soon...

Yeah, I think the iMac G4 uses regular drives, like you'd use in any PowerMac. Here's a good place to start:

I've never had that much exerience with G4 iMacs, is the base really that big?

If it was me, I'd buy an external DVD-RW ...... cheap and easy solution.

The reason I want to go internal is instead of external is internal is cheaper. I mean, where do you find a $40 external superdrive?
