I switched from Sprint last November to get the iPhone. I did not have the Instinct, but I heavily researched it and spoke to people who owned it. The iPhone runs circles around the Instinct. Did Sprint ever announce the winners of the Instinct App contest? I remember reading about Instinct users being pissed-off about this. I switched from Sprint because they really didn't have any good phone to offer.

Anyways, I have no problems with the iPhone's battery life. I can pretty much surf the web for a straight 5 hours without recharging + manually checking e-mail here and there. I don't have push or fetch on. I don't really have much experience with the talk time as I probably surf the net more often than talk on the phone. Then after work, I hook it up to the car charger for the 40 minute commute. I never really run into battery issues since I have a car charger.

However, if you are on Sprint, I would seriously wait until the Pre comes out. The iPhone is fantastic, but it is missing features that many cellphone users take for granted - even Instinct users. You would not want to hastily switch, only to see a very comparable (if not better) cellphone come out. I know its not out yet, but you have to be real and do your research.

as others have said you will be very happy with the switch, a friend of mine has the instinct and it doesn't touch the iphone

Hey:

I cancelled my contract with Sprint (avoided the early termination fee hehehe :D)

I picked up my new iphone last night and I'm really happy with it. Even though I've only had the iphone for a day, it's a far superior product to the instinct... ;)

FWIW, I posted this, back in July '07, on what you can do on an iPhone in one day on one charge. This was before tweaks to the firmware to improve battery life, but also before the App Store and so there were no juice-sapping games.

The iPhone battery is perfectly fine and compares well with other smartphones, particularly 3G ones which all suffer when on 3G and/or GPS.

I'm still running my "Day 1" iPhone and the battery is still great. I easily get a full day's activity - including games now - without worrying about running dry. People bitching about battery life: (a) didn't know what they were talking about; and (b) weren't comparing apples to apples.

Hello:

I have the samsung instinct, and I'm thinking of switching over to the iphone. I just have a few questions...

On one charge the instinct gets me through the day. I check email periodically, and speak for 15 minutes tops (mostly use my office phone). Once home, I plug it in to re-charge (at the point, 50% of battery is drained). Will the iphone provide better battery performance, or not?

With the bleak market conditions do you foresee the iphone price dropping (I know very hard to predict)?

Anyone familiar enough with the instinct, and made the switch to the iphone? Interested in your thoughts...

Thanks,

VJ

I would say it would be about the same battery wise. But it vary's greatly on the handset, the way you change it and the settings you use.

I don't see the iPhone dropping in price much more than it already has. But you never know, as you said.

I've never had an instinct but I found that when I got mine it could do *nearly* everything my old phone could, plus a lot more that my old phone couldn't!

I hope you enjoy you're new phone!

Congratulations!

Care to share your opinion on the differences between the two phones?

I haven't had the opportunity to use all the apps, so my input is as follows:

1)Better build quality
2)I like the glass front of the iphone (instinct is plastic)
3)Larger screen
4)So far, absolutely no issues viewing websites. It's basically safari on a smaller screen
5)Response time seems quicker on the iphone
6)Ability to expand/shrink websites to any size with finger gestures. Instinct only has 3 sizes
7)Number of applications
8)No surprise, but apple has a nicer interface
9)iphone is a platform, whereas the instinct is just a phone
10)So far in my area, I get better reception
