As much as my wife and family like the X, they say they couldn’t get used to no home button. I know my wife, if she had the X after a day she would rather just have an older model. She hates when iOS gets updated....lol

So I’m thinking the X will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a home button variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

I’m curious why not use the side button as the Home Button and add the top Sleep/Wake button.

I just can’t see some people ever moving past the Buttonless Home.

Of course could be the same people mourning the headphone jack.

Me? I’m doing fine

This would be really inconvenient for people, specifically those that hold the phone in their left hand.

And that doesn’t always mean left hand d people. I am right handed and hold the phone with my left hand a majority of the time. My fingers are no where near the side button.

I use Triple-Click-Home to activate 'Invert Colors' all the time. I can't look into the eye-scorching light grey on white color scheme when it's dark.

I'd have to be able to set it to another button or have access in Control Center at the very least.

I’ve remarked in another topic before, but I have a feeling that the next iPhone 8/+ design might incorporate the TrueDepth sensors to standardize FaceID across all iPhones.

Apple incorporated the TouchID to the iPads starting with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. Why would Apple build the SE if the iPhone 6/7/8 design was the only way going forward??

FaceID is the future, in my opinion, and there is enough bezel room on the current 8/+ design to fit. Even if they have to remove another jack

So I’m thinking the PowerPC Mac (fat) will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a 68k variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

So I’m thinking the iMac will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a floppy drive variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

So I’m thinking the Intel Mac will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a PowerPC variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

So I’m thinking the MacBook Air will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a optical drive variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

So I’m thinking the iPhone 7 will continue forward with developments and cutting edge technologies, but there will always be a iPhone 6 with mic jack variant. Just a thought. I can’t imagine them losing out on the millions of older people that don’t like change and need that tactile feedback.

See a pattern here?

Apple doesn't care.

Some people do not want to change and they choose to get stuck in the era that is comfortable to them. If they cannot or will not be moved then you can look forward to this kind of thing slowly becoming a major irritant over the years when people refuse to engage with new technology and new ideas and new ways of doing things.

I work with one of those people. And every day there's some new issue she has to piss me off or flat out drive me from zero to complete rage in a moment.

If your wife is capable of adapting I might suggest to her that Apple is not going to cater to her as they advance their minimalist plans.

I don't think so. I think we'll see an SE next year and that will be the last "new" phone with a home button. Apple will sell the 8 for a couple more years as is, but all flagships moving forward will not have a home button. It honestly doesn't feel so much different for me. Apple did a pretty incredible thing by taking away what we have used day in and day out for 10 years and replaced it with something extremely fluid and natural.

iPhone 6s is in its third year of production.

We can expect the same from iPhone 8. So 2017 - 2020 or three year transition period for everyone should be enough.

I remember when people were saying they would never be able to use anything but the physical keyboard from a Blackberry. Times change and people adapt.
Some do, some do not.

Those that do not rationalize their decisions and then become a plague on society and the generosity of others.

Ive had the same conversations with my mom and a few friends. They look at me using the phone as confusing and dont want to deal with it. I try to tell them well in the next few years when they dont have the home button phones and its time to upgrade you'll have to learn it.
Its just people being stubborn and not wanting to try out something new even if its better. People are scared of change but let them get used to the phone over a week or two and they won't ever look back and what they had before.
Its how technology has always been.

It's over OP

RIP to the home button!

So many android phones are moving away from the home button and now it's Apples turn to pretty much do the same.

Will there always be a cheaper model? Yes I do think so.

Will it always have a home button?
Like someone said, maybe a year or two more and than it's gone for good hardware wise.

However they may just make a virtual home button something for people to decide on. Meaning an under the screen finger print scanner acting as a home button that would basically give you a virtual home button just without any hardware. And maybe people could choose between that and Face ID?

To me that's like a win win for apple. But apple usually does things their way and I just don't know if software like this would be able to be used on a high level with IOS.

I've had the X for 5 days. I missed the home button for maybe an 20 minutes. Now? I hope I never have to go back to it, lol. Feels so much more natural to just use the gestures.

Not happening. Thankfully, Apple doesn't develop for people who "hate when iOS changes". We're getting one more year at most out of the flat-cornered display, home button equipped phones.

Way too much wasted space, especially with the competition being what it is.

You can. Triple click the sleep/wake/side button.

I think your guess is probably wrong about Apple keeping Home button models in the lineup forever, but that's also a guess.

I don't think history is a very good guide. The real antiques that Apple kept in the lineup, like the iPad 2 and the cMBP, were there for the educational market.

My guess is that Apple doesn't think that the number of people who won't get beyond the Home button are worth worrying about, and they're probably correct.

Just like they'll always offer a headphone jack option...

Yeah, so this post gets an official *giggle*. 😉 😀 Meaning that I agree.

Nope. The one thing with Apple is, right or wrong, once they make a decision they are committed to it
