For bit density (and others interested) re: Running High-End Windows Chess on Mac

Hello, bd-

I'm very interested in running high-end Windows chess programs with OS-X 10.5.2 on my 2.2GHz MacBook with 2GB RAM and lots of storage. I'm especially interested in some of the very programs you mentioned in a recent post, especially: Fritz, Fritz Trainer, Personal Chess Trainer (which is now Chessimo), Mentor, playable e-books at ChessPublishing.com, and other programs that seem to require ChessBase.

I'd very much like to email/message/talk with you regarding your experiences with Parallels and VMWare Fusion, particularly with running the above chess programs. Any advice you could give me before I make these major software investments would surely be appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Think Pads are grotesque and soulless. Windows is a rotten, half-assed Mac Tiger copy, always having to turn your head towards the security holes developing on all sides. Mac OSX is a joy in comparison. But what else would you expect on a site called mac rumors...?

I owned a Think Pad about eight or nine years ago. Ran pretty good but interestingly enough, it was the only laptop I have ever owned in all these years that had a bad pixel on it.

 Hope thats sarcasm.

get the thinkpad because it's obvious that it's the right choice for you.

if you're not talking ***** and are going to be using it for the stated purpose you'll be making enough money to grab a mac in what, a month, a week?

get a mac mini or a used macbook and play with it. how much money could you have made consulting in the time it took you to flip flop and post about your decision making process?

i don't mean to be an ass but that is my take on the situation.

Get the ThinkPad.

I understand you are going to carry you laptop around a lot?
On the hardware side ThinkPad will outperform MacBook by a mile on every aspect. To make the long story short, only good thing on a ThinkPad vs. MacBook is that MacBook has OS X which outlives Windows, the using experience is up to user whetere one likes it or not.

UPDATE
I got the ThinkPad, one year later, in April 2009. I got an X61 T (for Tablet) for about $700 after taxes and shipped, which is a steal. I love it. Since then I have upgraded the ram to 4 GB for $55. Recently I upgraded to SSD and it just rocks. My only problem is the noise. I didn't think the noise would matter much but the SSD requires higher CPU usage, so I am running at avg. of 60 C. I am running Windows 7 64-bit and it's great as a Tablet. I could go on a write a review but I just thought I post and update.

At one point I installed OS X on it and ran it for a while and then I stopped using it because my wireless card wasn't supported and Windows 7 just rocks! So I been to the Mac store a couple of times and I am still not impressed with the laptops, except for maybe the macbook air because it's quite. My laptop is kewl and I thought I want to give Apple another try, so I ordered a mac mini for ($549 @ Amazon) and will be hooking it up with my 24" HDTV (1080p) Monitor/TV. I have a couple of questions, but I'll post them in another thread.

Thanks

Yeah the X tablets are pretty good; I think I was just unlucky with mine.

Currently have an X200 which kicks butt.
