Still don’t get it… what should make me buy these ones instead of the pros?

the pros are mostly cheaper already (got my ones new for 160$ last year), they offer ANC, they‘re „Pro“. Why should someone get the regular 3er series?
Comfort. I have all three, gen 1 AirPods, pros, and AirPods max. The airpod are the most comfortable.

The Pro’s seal off the ear and have ANC. Active noise cancelling. Great sound.

The original ones are hard plastic and actually can be more comfy to wear for some people - such as me. These new ones will be similar.

Personal choice I think. Of course I haven’t tried the very latest ones here but I bet you they are all excellent.
The hard plastic is comfortable until one falls out while doing just about anything but sitting.

I’ve never had them fall out. They don’t fall off when I’m upside down on an inversion table. Just the way my ears are perhaps. On the other hand I can’t get the AirPod Pros to stay in my ear no matter what size tip I use…

I thought the silicone tips seal off more of the outside - allowing even more noise-cancellation. Just the tips will be missed, all other features seem awesome.

They haven't included the most important feature, in my opinion, which is "transparency". I would never use Airpods (I currently use Airpods Pro) to run or walk outdoor without transparency enabled if I don't want to risk to be hit by a car. Other than this, they seems ok (I'd have to personally test the audio quality).

Aren't Airpods able to be regular Bluetooth headphones? If so, shouldn't you be able to use them with any iPhone going all the way back to 2007? You'd think that would be the case since you can use them with Android phones and Windows PCs too.

Apple would have had to put specific code in the AirPods to break pairing with older iOS versions.

You can use them. Just some graphics and features wont be avalaible, but you can pair them and use them. At least that was the case with previous generation and older devices "not supported"

Can someone tell me if any of these Apple airpods stay in your ears. Don't fall out with the most minor of movement. I bought a pair of Bose sport earbuds in 2018 at an apple store in NY. The sound is great. But no matter what size rubber ear tips i use with them (3 sizes came with them) they fall out while I do gardening work. There's just no way they'd stay in if I tried to use them jogging. No way they'd stay in on a treadmill. On a stationary bike at the gym. I bought them because their literature promised they'd stay in my ears no matter what kind of exercise I did. Not true. Like I said. Even just working in my garden they fall out if i bend over to gather leaves, while doing the most simple of movements.

Thanks for advice.

It depends on your fit. For me, they (hard plastic ones), never fall out. I could do cartwheels and wrestling and they wouldn’t fall out. But I saw a friend demonstrate something totally different with his ears - so it just depends.

They do for most people. For some ears they are not a good fit and then may be prone to falling out, but the probability of a random person having such ears is low. Otherwise they likely wouldn’t be the bestselling wireless headphones on the market.

Ok. Thanks klasma.

You know what else drops?? The freaking Pods 3 connection... connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop connect, drop, connect, drop.... Soo glad Apple fixed their connection issues with these new AirPods.:mad::mad::mad:

Well, I've had the airpod 3s since Friday. They keep falling out. I've tried different tilt/positions. Doesn't help. I wipe them down before putting them in my ears. Doesn't help. I've used 'em right after a shower so body oil/sweat is low. Still doesn't matter. I would never use them outside and risk losing one or both.

The sound is good but them staying in my ears is kind of important too. I wonder if I can send them back. I mean 200 euros ain't peanuts. Not a happy camper. I wonder if the airpod pro model would be better? I have my doubts. My Bose sport buds have three different sizes of silicon ear bud type things and they don't work for me.

Maybe I need custom fit orthotics for my ear shape? Earthotics?

I believe Apple has (at least) a 14-day return-for-any-reason policy everywhere. If they don't work for you, send them back.

Custom molded earpieces can be fantastic (I had some long ago for some high-end Etymotic earbuds - they fit my ears perfectly, weren't tight, couldn't fall out), but I think there's an either/or choice - either AirPods (Pro or normal) or custom molded earpieces, but not both. I don't imagine that anyone is doing good custom molded earpieces for the AirPods, simply because of the bulk of the AirPods themselves (the AirPods fill most of your, hmm, "outer ear canal?", while the custom molded earpieces are meant to fill most of that space - they can't both fit there).

Getting custom ones is a bit trippy, by the way - you go to a ear doctor, and they pour your ears full of a goop that solidifies into a model of the space, then they send them off to a company that uses that to make a mold to fill with resin or silicone to make the actual custom molded pieces. If I was going to get non-AirPods earbuds again, I'd be very tempted to go through this process once more. And, of course, it'd be awesome if Apple were to make some special AirPods with the casing cut down and shaped properly so that custom molded earpieces could be made for them.

You don't need transparency on regular airpods. They don't really seal up your ear canal and my regular airpods sound like my airpod pros with transparency on.
