Tile wanted to block Apple's upcoming product by forcing Apple to give full system access to 3rd parties. That would ruin the privacy and security of iOS for all users. What Apple is giving the developers is not what Tile wanted, and they didn't achieve anything for themselves.
So their app will be rejected shortly. Does not work with the U1 chip, does not respect privacy. Pick a reason.

I distinctly asked for a link to Belkin that proves they offer this. I do not see where Belkin currently has this an offering and no third party is currently using FMIP. So that tells me it is currently not a feature being offered and also the image in use is a standard Apple Image which means that the "lock" feature more than likely is a new FMIP feature that is going to be released as a part of the third party program and they are using Belkin as an example(because they are by far the largest accessory partner of Apple).
Lol how naive is it for you to think they created a Belkin product as an example for this press release.

So, what if AirTags were a reference model prototype to get the environment up and running, tested out, then license out.

That sounds plausible...
I think you are probably right.

This is far more exciting IMHO as the only form factor limitation is the device the chip is embedded in.

That's not to say they might not release it themselves but if they give the market a fair advantage in getting products in there then they should be criticised as much for innovation.
Coincidence that so many products have just announced 'Find my' compatibility?

What's the over/under on how long Tile has before they liquidate their IP and cease to exist?

It depends on how well their business is doing.

Over the last 8 years... Tile has sold 26 million Tile trackers.

Though that seems kinda low considering there are BILLIONS of compatible devices out in the world. So maybe the tracker market isn't that big.

That is... until Apple enters the chat. Their customers love to buy accessories for their iPhones and such.

Perhaps Apple will kickstart the entire industry of trackers. Popularizing it like they are known to do.

Once again... Apple didn't invent the tracker... but they'll sure as hell bring a boatload of attention to it... and will likely sell a few (dozens of millions) in the process.

So getting back to your question... I'm not sure I'd like to be Tile's CEO right now...

:p

And I'd guess most of those Tiles were sold in multi-packs. Factor in the dead/broken ones and you have around 13 million users at best vs, what? 30-40+ million find-my capable iPhones from launch and millions more every week.

Apple not requiring an App is the real game changer

This really makes me wonder if AirTags will be released, seems kind of strange for Apple to give these options to other manufacturers.
I know I have different thoughts about this but I really don’t think Airtags are going to be released anything soon. I want them to be released but it looks like it isn’t going to be here in the near future. Airtags have been a big rumor for the past year and still nothing. That really questions me? If Apple is actually working on Airtags, it seems like they are having a lot of issues with this product. And for the Samsung Tags,

I think this is why AirTags have been delayed-- someone made the decision that they needed to open up to 3rd party support before they released a 1st party solution to avoid either legal issues, bad PR, or most likely both.
Yeah, Airtags have definitely been delayed and the AR Glasses will probably be delayed to 2023, maybe 2024.

Yeah all the apps in one app would be like 6TB.

This is great honestly. Levels the playing field so trackers can compete and the consumer wins.

AirPods 3 and all upcoming Apple products will have extra U1 tracking features is what this read as to me.

A whole new reason to upgrade.. yay :/
