Third party games on Apple

Are the third party free games on apples download page ok to play. Do I have to worry about spyware or anything like I did on windows.

thanks for your advice. another person on another forum said apple will not post them f they are bad but like to here people thoughts on the subect. still new to the whole mac thing.
