After initially trying a number of third party keyboards I've started using Swype almost exclusively. I happened to look at my battery usage stats last night and I was a bit surprised to see that Swype had used 6% of my battery in the past 24 hours and 5% in the past week.

Initially this seemed a bit excessive to me, but then it occurred to me that I do use the keyboard quite a lot and perhaps the apple standard keyboard falls into another category and wouldn't show up in the battery usage stats.

So now I'm wondering what other people who use a third party keyboard exclusively are seeing? Are you seeing similar numbers for your keyboard or is Swype just a resource hog?

Third party keyboards and battery usage

I use SwiftKey and it doesn't even show up in the battery usage stats. Hope that helps.

It swift key does show up for me at about 6%.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think you're right; you probably just don't see usage for the default keyboard separated out. Keyboard resource usage is very tightly limited by Apple (so much so that swiftkey complained they couldn't make their swipe feature work on the iPad.)
