So... this just crossed my mind, will third party MagSafe accessories (chargers, cases etc) get the nifty MagSafe animations?

I presume that they won’t...

it uses a nfc chip for authentication, nope :/

Edit: I stand corrected- It seems many clones are able to prompt the magsafe animations.

Mmm... that’s interesting, I have a funny feeling it will only be first party MagSafe chargers that will actually show the animation, with third party chargers maybe showing the traditional battery charging icon...

Or possibly Anker haven’t followed Apples instruction fully as reported https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/02/apple-magsafe-design-guidelines-accessory-makers/

The animation is only produced when the phone detects a specific MFi NFC chip in the charger.
Licensed MFi chargers will have the official chip but eBay and AliExpress are already full of manufacturers using reverse-engineered chips.
Remember unlicensed Lightning cables that either wouldn’t work or else would generate an on-screen warning?
Or that Apple could kill with the next iOS update?
Anker and other big name chargers are too reputable to use unofficial chips so their chargers will remain animation-less until they choose to produce a licensed MFi charger.

Bearing in mind that some people have reported that MagSafe chargers and the phones run hot when charging, should a phone get damaged using a third party non-approved by Apple magsafe charger then i dont think you would be able to make a warranty claim for a repair against Apple. I always use Apple or Apple approved accessories so if anything goes wrong, I could file for a repair or replacement phone.

I picked this up on sale a few weeks ago.
Even though there are photos, even a video review post of the MagSafe animation showing on their phones using this charger, mine just doesn't have this animation., just shows the old screen with large battery icon, % in text below it.

I was wondering though, is this because the charger has the USB-A to USB-C adapter going into a car charger with BOTH USB-A and USB-C input? I have no idea. I tried both inputs, no change.

But..it works and it replaced my old smaller magnet I had used as only a phone holder

I’ve had various car chargers and if they were USB-A then they needed a QC 3.0 power supply to generate the animation.
If they were USB-C then they needed a PD power supply.
