Third party SSD options for Yosemite OS X/Macbook Pro?

I want to upgrade my mid 2012 Macbook pro with a SSD (with either Crucial or Samsung), on Yosemite, would the TRIM support fiasco cause a problem? Can I just upgrade my laptop with a third party SSD without any Apple support BS and further trouble in the future?

Note: I'm not very tech savvy, I don't know much about the technicalities or how hardware works, so answer in layman terms please.
