Hi,

I have a 16 gb 3gs iphone. I m fed up of this message. Almost 3 months has passed. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this problem? Please help

help

Ive read most of the post but do any apply to me.. In my situation I have iphone 3g that i dropped in water. At first it was stuck on the apple logo screen for a while but after ton of "restoring" and taking the phone apart I finally got it to work again. Now the issue I have is I cannot hear out of my earpiece unless it is the headphones are plugged in. Apparently it stuck in headphone mode because when I turn the volume up or down it say "headphone volume" like it is plugged in or something. Also the phone does not vibrate at all. Iv tried "manually forcing" a pair of headphones in and out several times with no luck. Iv tried cleaning the the headphone jack with a Q tip and windex and no luck. Is there a solution that I can do to get the earpiece and the vibration to work again.

Also romeoyankee, will this soft fix you talk about take care of my problem??

nope!
it sounds like a hardware issue for you. your headphone jack needs to be replaced and so does your vibrator. when electronics get wet bad things happen! I am supprised you are not having charging issues also.

It worked !! tks.

After more than 1 year, your suggestion is still valid.
Folded paper, no windex

Clean your dock port

I have an 2G 8GB that I dropped in water. I immediately shut the phone down. I took a blow dryer and attempted to remove all water from the phone. This seemed to work but about every 60 seconds or so my phone would light up with this message "this accessory is not made to work with iphone" Not to mention I no longer had sound when I would use the slide to unlock feature or top button to hibernate the phone. After doing some reading a few suggested a software fix but it would permanently eliminate the sound i hear when unlocking or hibernating the phone...no way! I also read to clean the docking port on the bottom of the iPhone. This is what I did.
1. I shut the phone down.
2. I took a q-tip and pinched the ends to make them flat.
3. I took a bottle of rubbing alcohol and dipped the q-tip ends.
4. I swabbed the inside of the dock port with the q-tip. (rubbing alcohol is not water so it was safe to use in minimal amount on the port) or you can use keyboard cleaner.
4. While the inside of the dock port is still minimally wet with alcohol use an air compressor to blow the inside of the port to remove all debris or corrosion ( if you dont have an air compressor go to your local gas station to complete this process). Takes about 5min

Worked for me. If you dont want to try this you can always replace your dock port. They are like 10 bucks on ebay. But you should be technical savy

I had same problem, the error MSG came on all the time and intermitant sound. I took the advice to clean the dick connector, I used an old UAE dirham note ( I live in Dubai) and instantly after rubbing and blowing it's back to normal! :))

thanks for tips guys!

ok I have ready this problem many times on here and I just had my first iPhone give me this error. I could not respond before because I had never actually seen it. now after reading hundreds of posts many of you are actually on to it by saying a drop of water, or dust in the charging port. this is definaltely the problem. it is not the device that you are plugging into it because in this case the phone was not plugged in and still did it. so I replaced the dock assembly which houses the charging cable, speaker, mic, etc. and it solved the problem instantly. it turns out the connector in the phone I was working on had a pink water sensor. replaced it and BAM! :D

I have this same problem when I hook my phone into a dock. I just click ok, and it still works. I would like to know how to turn that prompt off though. It is quite annoying!

Try "Popup Blocker"
"Popup Blocker is an application that allows you to control just about every popup that you could get on an iPhone and/or iPod touch. Once installed, you can get to the app in your stock Settings application. Here you have the options to enable/disable the application, Block Away Items, turn on/off Wake On Alert (this turns on your screen when you receive an alert) and set Alerts.

In the Alerts option you have the ability to turn on/off Block When Unlocked, Block When Locked and Wake On Alert for the following popups;
• Calendar Alerts
• SMS Alerts
• Voicemail Alerts
• Location Requests
• Accessory Warnings
• Network Lost Warnings
• App Deletion Warnings
• App Store Ratings
• Low Battery Warnings
• Low Disk Space Warnings
• Backgrounders Alerts
• Call Failure Warnings"

does it ever just go away on its own?

I should have checked this place out yesterday BEFORE I listened to Rogers and Apple. Rogers told me this was the first time ever that they've heard of this ever happening. They told me I should restore my phone. Not only was that a waste of time but it was a complete nussiance! After doing this only to find that it didn't help in the least, I called Apple. Appletold me that I was the second person EVER to call in about this problem. She told me that there was an obstruction in one of the ports, possibly the headphone port, either dust or a bug wandered in there. She told me to blow into the ports or use a can of airspray. And if that didn't work, do a hard reset. If all else fails I should return my Iphone and either they'd fix it or send me a new one.

I'm just wondering, after reading some of your posts here, I think it was moisture that caused this to happen to my iphone. In past experiences (and no I don't make a habbit) when any electrical "thing" has gotten wet, as soon as its dried it works again. Maybe over some time the message may just go away on its own? Has anyone here had the problem go away eventually over time? I don't want to return my iphone. And I notice the message doesn't happen as often now. I've only seen the message 3 times since I worked on it lastnight. And yesterday I was getting the message every 5 seconds. I'll check back here for replies, and repost if it ever stops completely.
Cheers!

Rice...

Just a tidbit I heard from somewhere.
If you drop your cell in water imediately turn it off and throw it into some rice! LOL! anyone ever hear this before? Sounds plausable to me... :p

Simple Solution

After playing around for a long while and reading different posts I finally figured out the solution.

The solution is simple if you own a mac. It may be a little more complex with a PC. I will let you know once I have tried it all out, but this fix is a real fix.

The solution is on this site:

http://purplepeanuts.com/Purple_Pea...cessory_Is_Not_Made_To_Work_With_iPhone".html

The directions for mac users are easy to follow. Good luck

upgrade doesn't fix the problem

Upgraded to iOS4 and the message went away for a couple days. Now its back in the form of a new message "this accessory is not optimized for this iphone." No mention of airplane mode, but it still messes with my external speakers.

problem solved

i had this problem with my iphone 3gs after working in the rain, i realised something was wrong straight away so when i got home and looked on a few forums, they all pointed towards water or dirt getting into the data/charging socket on the bottom..
all i did was fold some tissue up nd give i a good clean.. it seems to have worked and i have had no problems since... like i said i did do this within 4 hours of it starting to happen so i think that helped.. good luck it is the most annoying thing ever, oh and my sound stopped working apart from my ringtone if somebody phoned but doing this sorted eveything :) i do think it was water tho as it did get wet that day for the first time and i use it in a dirty environment every day at work without a problem. i think dry it out before anything fuses together and you will be fine.. :)

Use the connector

This happened to me. I just plugged my iPhone into the connector (NOT the dock) and pulled it out. The sound started working again and I could, in fact, see the dirt on the connector afterwards.

Fixed this Issue on my phone.

I had some success fixing this issue after pulling out my hair trying everything here. I have a phone that was dropped into a toilet and then was replaced with a brand new phone. The old phone would not turn on initially but after 4 months letting it sit in a drawer I decided to give it a go at repairing it.

First I took it out and tried to charge the phone and then turn it on. It did not turn on but instead just sat on the apple sign forever. I removed the glass and LCD and noticed that there was some corrosion on the connectors connecting the LCD and Glass. I cleaned these connectors up and then put it back together. Success! The phone turned on. This is when the problem with the message about the accessories started coming up. Another thing that I noticed is that the speaker and mic were not working as well. I could have a phone call and listen to music but only if the headphones were in. That is when I found this post.

I first tried to clean the connector dock points and the earphone jack. Nope. I then decided to take the phone apart again and look at all of the other connections. I took off the LCD and Glass and then popped off the dock connection. There was a lot of corrosion all around the connector pins. I cleaned both sides with screen cleaning solution and q-tips and then put all the connectors together again, installed the Glass and turned it back on. The first thing I noticed is that when I slid the unlock there was some sound from the speaker, and it did not give the message box about the accessory!

Hope this can help someone else.

This helped!

:p this really helped! I dropped my iPhone in my epsom salt hot foot bath! I tried this method and it seems to have worked. I used iPhone cleaner instead of winded. Thanks!

I had this problem and I fixed it in minutes with no jailbreaking or software modifications. A small amount of water condensation from a cup holder in my car got into the dock connector port which caused this error message to pop up every few minutes, sometimes every few seconds, for about two weeks. I fixed it by cleaning the pins on the connector after reading the comments above. There may be a more professional way to do this, but I used what I had on hand and it worked.

1. Turn off the phone.

2. Fold a crisp, new $1 bill over two times, stick the folded corner under the pins and rub it back and forth quickly for approximately 30 seconds.

3. Fold the bill over one more time, stick the folded corner on top of the pins and rub it back and forth quickly for approximately 30 seconds.

4. Spray Windex on the corner of the bill, wipe off the excess with your fingers and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Notes:
I used the Windex because the dry cleaning did not fix the problem. I included information on the dry cleaning because it may be an important interim step.

I turned my phone off before starting this procedure, but it turned back on before I finished it. I might have turned it on accidentally or the Windex may have made a connection that caused this to happen. The lesson is make sure you don't use too much Windex. If your phone is new or if you aren't lazy like me you should probably go to RadioShack and get some contact cleaner.

this accessory is not optimized for this iphone error

I had the same problem with my iphone. I was tryng just like the other members to figure out the best solution to fix the issue.
in fact this is very simple to fix, except if the pins on your phone are distroyed.

well all you have to do is to take a thin object for about "1" (paper clipper), if you have the "dust off" this is the compressed gas duster that will great to use. otherwise you will have to blow the air from your mouth.

so take the pin and remove all the dust stock into usB cable port and once you do that, take the dust off and remove the lil dust that where collected in the port.

you dont have a to turn off or reset the phone . once you remove the dust , all the sounds will work properly and you wont have that issue anymore.

this is easy and simple. don't try stuff that will put your device in danger...

this work and i confirm myself....

How to fix this issue

I use my iphone4 while I run, using Runkeeper. After last nights run my iphone started displaying "this accessory is not optimized for this iphone". After reading the comments on this blog I looked at the charging receptacle and noticed there was some green stuff in side and thought it migth be corrosion from sweat. I took a paperclip and GENTLY scraped the inside and removed it. After I the inside surface was smooth, I called it fixed. The error message went away. Something must have been interfering and might have been a build up up lint and or moisture from my workouts. Hope this helps.

This accessory is not made to work with iPhone error

Ok well my iPhone was doing the same. What happened was that my lil one Manny witch is 3 Years old was using the iPhone and dropped his orange juice and it got near the part were you plug the charger . A while latter it started popping that "this accessory is not made to work with iPhone error" so what i did was used my blowdryer for a couple of seconds and the popups stopped. hope this works for you :)
