This cable or accessory is not certified

Just today I am getting this message on my iPhone 6 Plus.

This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work with this iPhone.

The thing is I don't have any cable connected to the iPhone when this happens.

When I do plug in my Apple charger and cable it does charge ok. The message keeps popping up without anything connected to the phone.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If a reboot does not stop it I would back-up and take it to the Apple store. Never heard of this message when a cable was not plugged in.

That happened to me when I first got my apple watch, but Apple sent me a new one and it's been fine ever since.
