I couldn't agree more. it's the superiority of the Apple trackpads that makes me stick with Apple. I have used many Windows trackpads and so far have found none that are as smooth.

While it's definitely not as good as the MBP trackpad, I've played around with the XPS 15 in our office and the trackpad is definitely not bad by Windows standards. I'd be fine with using it in all honesty.

I Like the Apple eco system, easy to combine all apple devices. very secure macos operating system, streaming to apple tv using final cut pro, lovely designed apps and widgets and other fine things.

but with a windows machine after 120 updates and 10 restarts you will never have same experience as with some macs.

Here in Canada, the base MBP 13" non-touchbar is $1899 with 8 GB of DDR3L RAM, 256 GB SSD, and 2.0 GHz i5 with on-board graphics.

For $100 CAD more (around $75 USD), you can get the XPS 15" with 512 GB SSD, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia GTX 960M, and the glorious i7 6700 HQ quadcore.

It also has a TB3/USB-C port, plus enough normal ports to not screw around your whole workflow right out of the gates.

The trackpad isn't as nice, and the resale value will be dismal by comparison, but that's a hard bargain. I honestly don't mind the 1080p IPS non-touch display on it though I wish it were 16:10... but it's a 15" over a 13" so it is still taller.

That's a big gap in hardware. Remember, that's just compared with the base MBP 13" non-touchbar.

The Dell XPS 13 is a solid laptop. The trackpad is meh. One really odd thing on it is the location of the webcam. It's in the bottom left corner of the screen, so you always get an up-chin view of yourself, and if you are typing while talking to someone your fingers block the camera.

Here are some ways the Dell is inferior to the MBP:
- The Dell doesn't have a 40Gbps i/o.
- The Dell doesn't have a 3 GBps SSD.
- The Dell doesn't run OS X.
- The Dell will have 25% resale value at best after two years. It will have close to zero resale value after four years.
- Dell doesn't have any retail stores to get in-person tech support.
- The Dell doesn't have a force touch trackpad.
- The Dell charger is less portable.
- You have to live with their slogan "Dude you're getting a Dell!" constantly playing in your head.

I'm going to counter a few points here.
The Dell has an upgradable SSD so you can actually put in an equivalent or faster SSD later.
Windows 10 is on par with OSX. I like both.
You can get in person support but the Apple stores are much better about this.
I think having a physical click versus force touch is actually better but I haven't lived with a force touch based laptop. My MBA is 6 years old now.
The Dell charger is just as portable as the previous MBP charger. You can only use Dell's external battery rather than any USB based battery.
..........no
Windows scaling has improved but is still weird if you hook up to an external display that has a different scale.

The Dell has equivalent build quality to the MBP. The trackpad isn't quite as good (I'd say around 80% as good (I have a 2 yr old XPS 13)), but it's fine.

I don't know about Australia prices, but the price of the XPS 15 in the US is significantly better than the MBP 15.

the XPS 15 is the price of the 13" MBP because of my student discount ($2549 for both). The base 15" mbp is $3360.

I cancelled my MBP order with great sadness but I simply couldnt justify it in place of the xps 13. Maybe when im looking at laptops in the future ill look towards a mac :) Thank you all, it was nice to have a rational discussion (im looking at you, youtube).

OSX > Windows 10

Everytime I attempt to use my Surface Book, I cant wait to go back to my Macbook

I also like that I have an Apple store 7 minutes from my house. If anything goes wrong with my MacBook, I can usually get it fixed that same day.

Not sure how you do that with the Dell.

What annoys you about the surface book/win10? Curious as I may decide to upgrade to it.
