...but is the display on this MacBook2,1 a CCFL-lit one or an LED-lit one?
I know, it's probably obvious. Looks LED to me due to how even it is (though my other CCFL laptops are generally pretty even), but I've been wrong before, so I thought I'd double check with the people who know what they're talking about.​

CCFL.

First MacBook to use a LED-display was the 2008 Aluminium and the L2009-M2010 Unibody models.

Thanks for the info! I'm considering LED modding mine to squeeze more battery life out, I'm currently getting about 4h15m. Hopefully it'll be a noticeable difference -- though I suppose reliability is another good reason.
SInce you're already here -- is this keyboard different to later MacBook keyboards -- the 2015s or M1s, say? I've never found a source that says yes or no on that. I really like the tactile, crisp keypress on these.​

Sort of, the keycap layout is different than the later 2008 variant. On pre-2008 keyboards, the arrow keys also double as the page up/down keys natively. Also, the escape key is on the left side of the key while later it got centered.

Smaller changes include the Command key text changing from (⌘ + ) to (⌘ + command) and the change from ctril to control.

I wouldn't know if the white MacBook switches are the same as the later variant(s). I know it was the same until the Retina MacBook Pro came out. The height between the switch and the keycap is shallower. Wouldn't have a clue about the new Magic Keyboard (16"-M1) though.

That would mean taking a display from a Unibody MacBook (A1342). IIRC the aluminium machines use a different connector.

Honestly, I was just thinking replacing the CCFLs with an LED strip, the same way as done with iBooks/PowerBooks since that's what I'm most familiar with, but I suppose that does make more sense and would be easier conceptually.​

At just about any point in time, the displays on Macbooks always looked to be a grade above (most of) the rest, even when they were still using CCFL technology. I remember looking at your Macbook next to a similarly priced Windows laptop (think it was a HP or Compaq) in a now defunct UK retailer ironically called PC World in 2006-ish. The Apple's display seemed to be from an altogether different breed.
