So then what exactly are you trying to say here? The Core 2 Duo is on the verge of being obsolete. It won't be around for much longer. When the Sandy Bridge i3 is ready Apple will use it and replace every Core 2 Duo in their line.

i dont know how you arent following TBH.

talking SOLELY 13" MBP - the entry level MBP - ONLY that one.

the C2D is the best option FOR NOW (performance/price etc). once they become unavailable - then yes, the i3 that supercedes the (p8400?) C2D will be the best option clearly.

What the hell? I never ONCE said it wasn't the best option right now. I was solely talking about a redesign and refresh.

now im confused..... haha

all im saying, is apple did the right thing.

I was talking SOLELY about a refresh and redesign. I was not talking at all about how Apple decided to use the Core 2 Duo again this time around in the 13" except for the fact that in order for them to use newer chips they are going to have to redo the logic board which in turn would likely lead to a redesign.

ok - im with you now :)

redesign wouldnt be THAT hard. im sure they would have done it for the 13" when they did the 15"/17".

No one knows and has ever known when the next update is coming. To ask about an update after an update just came out is just plain insane.

Think University's

I know this is going to sound crazy, but please hear me out
(Please ignore the MacBook and MacBook Pro rebranding).

1. In October, 2008 Apple updated the 13" and 15" MacBook Pros updated to unibody design (and internals etc etc).

2. In January, 2009 Apple updated the 17" to match 13" and 15" (except with built in battery).

3. In June, 2009 Apple updated the 13" and 15" (with built in battery etc.)

4. In April, 2010 Apple updated all MBPs.

So let's look at the time between updates roughly...
From October to to January there was roughly 3 months.
Then from January to June it was roughly 6 months.
From June to April it was roughly too long.

I want to update to the newest/fastest 13" - but I'm not completely happy with the lack of Intel's newest chips and screen options. I'm not in a huge hurry to upgrade, so this is more of speculation. Do you think they might update the 13" again before the beginning of September?

Give me your thoughts before ripping this idea to threads. What I hope to happen is that I get a new 13" MBP with the back to school promo before it ends. If there is no update before then, I will probably settle with the top of the line 13" regardless...

Think there will be an update, but I think Apple will wait a little longer that September, October once freshers and college have bought MacBooks for the Semester! Apple have done this before...

However, there's absolutely nothing with the machine I am using. Today, in revision, I had multiple docs open - a cross section of apps, pages, word Circus Ponies Notebook: and running flash video, and wma audio files: I was running an external monitor... wifi loaded and running, bluetoothed to my phone!!!

This machine, didn't even break sweat ---- unlike me!!!! :)

Again, why would Intel want to be selling the cheaper chips when they could be selling the more expensive ones without being a detriment to sales? They have ZERO competition right now in the mobile space.

They do have. AMD is dominator in low-end laptops and desktop (&servers), it's huge market nowadays. People in e.g. China and India don't have 2000$ to spend on i5, they need cheap which Intel can't currently offer

Hyper-threading and turbo boost say hello.

IF i3 had Turbo, it'd be good but as it doesn't, it'd be downgrade. i5 can't be used in 13" because what would Apple use in 15" and 17" then?

Key word here is might. Apple loves gloating about pixel density whether you can read the screen or not. Hell there are 15" widescreen laptops right now with 1920x1080, I was actually just talking with my buddy who said he wanted the 15" MBP to have a 1920x1200 resolution.

But there are no 17" with +1920x1200 res (AFAIK). That's the issue unless Apple says good bye to 17". There is not enough 16:9 resolutions to make it better.

Even if Apple made them widescreen, that wouldn't mean that it could handle decent CPU and dedicated GPU. 13" is entry level and has never had a dedicated GPU (if PowerBooks are not included)

What the hell? I never ONCE said it wasn't the best option right now. I was solely talking about a redesign and refresh.

It'd be nice to know what the hell are we talking about :D As I said, neither of us is wrong, or right.

Apple will discontinue MBPs and start making iPad Pro :p
