Wow they shoulda had an ad for a guy in the military seeing his wife and kids, not a guy who probably had a stripper in the bathroom :)

And hopefully they have wifi for you guys!!

Congrats!

Yes what a perfect use for this phone.

Gosh, whole thing sounds like a commercial :D

Just needs "When Your Smiling" playing in the background like the facetime video and it would make a lot of people cry!

Congrats on the baby and the phones! Hopefully you both received good phones without any issues.

My wife and I just set up our new iPhone 4's. I'm currently at my fire dept working my 24hr shift and she's at home.

Tried facetime and it works BEAUTIFULLY! She is literally due (40wks prego) tomorrow and I deploy when my new daughter is about 3 months old. I SHOULD have wifi over there. This is going to make my deployment SOOO much better.

Sorry for the no purpose post.

Any military members out there debating...GET THE IPHONE 4!

Okay, it is time for an update. :)

Just know that alot of the Wifi hotspots in afghan/iraq military bases require a java login once connected when I was there the iphone 3g wouldnt work w/ cyber sniper hotspots but you never know may be a different provider.

congrats dude!!!! im glad u will have something to u can always be close to home. Take care of yourself and show them what America is made of. Thamks for all your services to our great country.

Awesome man! Thanks for your service, and great FaceTime story! It's truly life-changing.

OP, you need to make sure you’ll be allowed to bring your iPhone over there. One of my relatives was told iPhones are not allowed, due to the enemy being able to use them to hone in on targets or something like that.

I was able to connect with my 3G last year in Kabul and on KAF - made a few Skype calls and downloaded some kindle books so don't give up all hope. I even had my 3G unlocked and running on the roshan network for local voice calls There were also several networks I couldn't access due to the java login you mentioned. Safe journeys.

Congratations on the new baby! Thank you for everything you are doing for our country. I'm happy the iPhone will make your deployment more bearable.

Do you still have to pay the AT&T monthly rate if you will be deployed?

From an old Vietnam Vet, Good Luck on your Deployment.

I'm glad you both got iPhones. If you are successful in doing Facetime from half way around the world let us know. It would be very interesting.

That's awesome man. Congrats on the new daughter and I'm glad you have found something that makes your deployment easier. As others have no doubt said, thank you for your service.
