My son (almost 2) wakes up during the night now and then screaming about something or another. Sometimes it's coherent (about balloons or spiders or something) and sometimes it's just a scream. Kids have night terrors at that age because they are processing so much new material and just really beginning to understand their world and what's happening around them.

I wouldn't read too much into it - my son will talk about firetrucks scaring him now and then because they had a fire alarm at school last month. They perseverate on things because they have, relatively at least, few experiences to "worry" about. Your son likely was just putting two unrelated things together in a dream.

Ok, thanks and it's good to be hearing from parents with kids about the same age as my son. This is all new to me:eek:

We also have a (nearly) 5 year old daughter, and went through the same thing, so it's familiar territory.

More worrying to me than dreams are watching him fall down 7 stairs last night because he lost his balance. Luckily, no damage to him (or the stairs ;)), but I think my heart just started beating again about 20 minutes ago.

ouch:( , I'm glad he's ok. You're so right, that is scary.

Perhaps we should start a macrumors thread for members with children? my son Griffin is going to be 3 in December. He already knows how to boot up our powermac and make things disappear:eek: loves pointing to the mac logo and saying "apple". spends many hours navigating through the sesame street site and playing games. we constantly find stacks of pages he has sent to print in the printer.

Went ahead and did it.

I asked him about it this morning and he didn't remember.

I came right out and asked him who's car in his dream went beep beep and then I copied his sceam. He said Mommy's car, but really I think he was just saying the first thing that came to his mind.

He is going to think your nuts. He was just dreaming.

People talk in their sleep and act out their dreams all the time...you've probably done some creepy things in your sleep that you don't know about.

I'm sorry, but I do find this funny only because children do and say the "darndest things." When my eldest nephew was three, he fell down some stairs when he was walking down them (they were carpeted) and when he was crying he said "I tumble like bowling ball!" lmfao I still love that.

Kids' minds are so fresh and new and they always comprehend things that we, as adults do not. They see things that we don't, and they communicate the only way they really know how.

I wouldn't worry... You're son sounds like a normal child. Just as long as he doesn't have the ability to levitate aobjects or bring rain down, you'll be okay. :)

As I said in my above post, don't be so quick to discount things. Sometimes (not all times of course) there is more to it than simply "just dreaming". And this isn't a negative thing that should creep people out (although people are naturally afraid of what they don't understand or what is out of their comfort zone), it's just something that people shouldn't always dismiss so easily without a second thought.

One must also be careful not to associate things that are coincidental, or read too much into things that just don't mean anything. I dreamt about spiders last night. Is it because I killed a spider earlier in the day, or should I be on the lookout for spiders today?

If the child woke up and said "Grandma says she loves you" and you subsequently find out grandma died over night, then I'd worry. Or, in this case, if grandma is run over by someone today then I'd think twice about it.

As a parent of young children, if I had second thoughts about all of the babble that spews out of their mouths at night, I'd never sleep myself. ;)

Indeed. Not having children myself, and not knowing much about their age and intellectual growth... I thought it odd that a two year old would act out someone being run over by a car. Not odd, perhaps... but creepy in the middle of the night.

Reminds me a bit of Birth.

All this talk kinda makes me want to have a child...

Yeh... but you'd just end up dissapointed when it didn't say anything weird and kept on pooping itself.

Yeah. I'm not even ready for a house plant much less a child. In time though. In time.

Exactly - that's why I said "sometimes", not all the times. Some people however always dismiss these types of things, which isn't right either though, which was my point...

Sounds like a dream. I don't believe is psychics and mediums and all that garbage.

I remember when my little sister was about 7 years old, she would sometimes walk in her sleep. Several times she walked down the steps and started taking to us, making no sense at all, then turn around and go back to bed. Next day, she didn't remember a thing about it. We thought she was going koo-koo. But, she outgrew that eventually.
My brother and I used to talk to each other in our sleep.

Don't let yourself be too frightened by your child's dream. Just make sure you are extra carefull when driving anywhere within 3 miles of "Grandma's House". No cellphones, no adjusting car seats, no food, no drinks. I've had waaay too many dreams come true to not be carefull, especially ones involving car crashes. The psychic part of the human mind develops more each generation. It is creepy, but nothing to be afraid of.

If you don't believe in it, that's fine, but then don't go around and call it garbage. Something is not garbage simply because you do not believe in it. :) Try and have an open mind, and even if you are not into something, respect that some people are, and that there is a possibility that maybe there is something to it after all, whether it's personally something you're into or not.

Oh, and to clarify, yes, there are a lot of scams out there, people pretending to be psychics, mediums, and all that, which of course the majority of are hoaxes, however don't discount an entire concept just based on some scam artists who might give it a bad rap. That's all. ;)

On a side note. I know a family who lived in an old house and who's children used to talk about seeing people inside the house, who really weren't there. Then one summer, the Dad was outside cleaning the pool, he walked into the garage to get something and when he came back out (literally seconds later) his son was face down in the pool. The autopsy showed that child didn't have any water in his lungs and I believe deemed the death suffocation, not drowning.

Anyways, after the accident, the family had the house "cleaned" to remove the spirits that they thought killed their child... after that, the children claimed that they could see people at the windows.. staring into the house.

Creepy. Oh yeh.

I don't think I could continue to live in that house, even if there wasn't the extra freakiness of spirits lurking...

I believe that that is what is rubbing people the wrong way. A lot of us don't believe in the same things/ideas/ideals... that doesn't mean we can't have a healthy respect for others' beliefs.

Uh. Okay. It's just my opinion. I've never seen any real evidence of ghosts, spirits or dead people communicating. It's superstition (or the onset of dementia), and that's fine if people want to believe in psychics and mediums and cults. I don't, which is why I have no respect for it. I feel the same way about UFOs, Bigfoot, God and the Lochness Monster. Humans have vivid imaginations.
Sounds like the son saw that allstate commercial i think where it follows exactly what the son was doing. As far as ghosts and all that otherstuff it aint real................................ Ufo's now thats a very different matter dont fool yourself. Our Govt has never come clean on this subject. Even today the truth is kept hidden and secret. It pisses them off there is someone outthere with tech that makes our tech look like stone knives and bearskins.

While I agree with you somewhat, I tend to have no respect for things I find ridiculous. Sure, I may not agree with everything you believe in, but if I think it's absolutely crazy, then I have no respect for it. Some people think that believing in ghosts is crazy. I believe Scientology is crazy and don't care for it one bit.

I probably have a better chance of seeing a ghost than Xenu, so I don't mock people who have seen ghosts. I'll just stick to mocking Scientologists. :p

or maybe its just me....

My 2 year old was sick last night, so I had him sleep in bed with me. At about 4am he woke up, sat up and eyes all bloodshot said "car goes beep-beep, aaaaahhhhhhh," then he fell face down onto the bed.

Now, I was a little creeped out, I asked him - oh a car goes beep beep? "No, car goes beep-beep, aaaaahhh" as he screams. Then said " she goes by Grandmas house"

The thing that creeped me out was that I didn't think he knew about car accidents. Now I'm a little nervous:(

Just a bad dream I guess, but still creepy. It probably doesn't help that my little brother was killed in a car accident (10 years ago).

Things like this just have a way of happening, my cousin had a similar problem when he would sleep talk and screen some weird stuff.
