    Apple's Good for Nothing iPad
    02.02.10

Apple's latest creation seems destined to flop like the rest of its tablet brethren.

Apple's iPad—what is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again. Actually, those are the lyrics to the song "War," but they also apply to the iPad, methinks. I'll tell you why.

First off, it's really just a gigantic iPod touch. It's good for all of the things you can already do on the touch, like listen to music, look at pictures, and run a few, weird iPhone apps. The flashlight app should be really entertaining on the iPad, right?

    He goes on and on!!!

He writes for PC Magazine. It's a given that he's going to bash the iPad, just as he does all Apple products. It's part of his job description. I wouldn't give it much thought.

Dvorak's default position on pretty much anything is that it won't work. He said that the Mac interface wouldn't work back in the 1980's and I'd bet he said similar things about the iPod and the iPhone. He's sort-of amusing in a shock-jock way but I wouldn't look to him for any insight into what the future will look like.

I believe he also blew off the concept of the "mouse".

The bold sections stand in direct contradiction to each other.

Aren't you aware that Dvorak essentially makes his money by being a professional troll. I don't read anything he writes, because his basic business model for decades has been to shout inflammatory nonsense. It gets picked up by aggregation sites like Slashdot, where it gets nerd rage and even though they are angry, the nerds drive more traffic to his articles.

I respect Dvorak like I respect Jerry Springer.

One thing I don't understand about these people is where do they come from? Why does anyone give them the time of day? I mean, any number of posters on this forum could do a much better job of analysis. What is the criteria used here? Is he just calling people non-stop, so they pick up his article just to get him to shut up? Is there payola involved? what?

I see the same thing with people writing reviews of other technology (camera equipment especially). They get called-upon as experts no matter how many times they're proven wrong. It's like there is zero collective memory.
