wondering if the design didn't change because, Apple has been stock piling the displays for the last two year

not in a rude way but is this based on anything more than a feeling? Havent Samsung got the curved amoled sorted or do they still face problems?

It's based on what we have seen in the past with new display technology. Samsung first showed off displays with a single curved edge about two years before they used it in a phone and when they did use it in a phone it only had a curve on one side.

A year later they launched the Galaxy S6 Edge, you may recall it was much more expensive than the normal Galaxy S6 which didn't have the curves. It was about £750-£800 in the UK compared to £550 for the non-curved version with identical specifications.

Then a year after that the Galaxy S7 Edge comes out which finally brings it to the masses at the normal Galaxy S price point.

It took a long time for them to get the curve to work, then to get it to work on both sides of the panel and then to make it reliably enough to bring the costs down.

A few years ago we were shown flexible displays, the kinds that can bend and be completely folded. These still aren't making it out into products yet. It's just very difficult to manufacture them defect free in high volumes.

Keep in mind that Apple sold 231.22 Million iPhones in 2015. That is a lot of devices to manufacture parts for and it's not easy to make a drastically different display with curves on all sides that goes edge to edge with the pixel density that would be required.

My company and I have worked in consumer electronics in the past, building all-in-one modem-router-phone hubs for ISP's and other electronics like that, not mobile phones though but I can tell you it's not that simple to get things manufactured as it may seem, Apple of course operates on another level having the quantities of cash to move heaven and earth but you can't buy everything and sometimes things like this just need a lot of time to mature there's a lot of components like that including processors, wireless chipsets, batteries. Things you can't rush by throwing money at it.

Apple sells more of any individual phone than all other companies. I'm not sure the manufacturing will be ready to produce over 100 million of these. No other company has had to manufacture this many curved displays as of yet.

My prediction: Iphone 7s in 2017

If you think about how hard it is to get a phone of choice this year then if the rumours are true about next years phone and it is as good as the mock ups then it's going to be a nightmare trying to get hold of one for months

It would be a big headache for those people like me who like to put on a casing , how on earth can we protect the front display with that curve screen? What happen when the phone is drop?

The iPhone already has curved glass for two years, all they need to do is put a screen under it

Looking at what little 'ol Sharp can come up with in a smartphone, it's clear that someone can still innovate. :D

Ugg... if that's what it's going to look like, then I'm either going to stick with my 7+ or get an S8 or Pixel 2 instead. I'm probably one of the very few who prefer bezels to Edge-to-edge displays. My fingers are far too clumsy and accidentally touch edge the touchscreen (triggering the navigation bar to appear) far too often when watching videos.

I hope next years phone is a big change from the current form. Larger screen say 5" OLED, bigger battery capacity, fast charging.

I also hope they release it at the end of June to coincide with the anniversary of the first iPhone.

Says who?
Says people who rely too much on wishful thinking and not enough on waiting to see what is actually released (read reality). Every year we see the same rumors, and every year most of them are proven wrong.

Which rumors?

Don't you think that would be a design oversight? You really don't think Apple hasn't already thought of that? Ignoring accidental touches is already in the iPad, I'm sure an enhanced version will carry over to the edge-to-edge Iphone.

Haven't had burn in issues with my S7. The problem with display models is that they're rigged to display the same screen for hours at a time. Very much like the monitors or laptops you see in stores that don't rely on OLED but LED or LCD tech.

I don't find a use for curved display on a phone. I don't see a huge use for it in desktop monitors either. If people are worried about burn in with OLED, I'd wait for QLED which solves burn in.

I haven't used the latest iPad so I wouldn't know. I would hope Apple is aware of it and is working on a solution other than "you're holding it wrong." I think it'd be better to ditch the bezeless design for the iPhone and keep it on the iPads if it works on those those.

I think they're gonna eliminate the home button (not sure how they're gonna work that into the software but they've done miracles before) and keep the top bezel but half the size of the current one. Allowing the earpiece, camera, and sensors to have a little bit of room and to create a better place for your hands when holding in landscape.

You won't have that display in the iPhone 8 yet. It's still a prototype device for Sharp and thus not fit for mass production where you need to have high yields, strength and reliability. Maybe the iPhone 9 or 10.

Of course it's going to require better palm rejection because you'll be hitting the edges constantly. Now, the current iPhone models have ridiculously large bezels but taking them out all together means that you have to be either careful how you hold it or the software has to work well enough to figure out that it's your palm. I guess how they do that is by detecting the size, location and shape of the data your palm gives to the touchscreen reader.

So, what would everyone prefer with a bezel less iPhone, that apple keeps the same screen size and reduces the size of the phones, or they keep the phones the same size and increase the screen size?

4.3
5.0
5.7

In the smallest physical footprint possible.

I would prefer to increase the screen size from the standard 4.7" and reduce the footprint of the iPhone plus.
