id take the 3400c. What happens, it just doesn't turn on when you push the power button?

the 3400c, i bought when it just came out. it worked perfectly, no problems. then i didnt need it so i folded it up in its genuine apple leather carrying case, put it in the basement , for 15 years. when i went to check it out recently, it turned on and seemed to boot up..but the screen was displaying a random pattern. so i attached an external monitor, and the same pattern appeared on the ext monitor. so then i figure the graphics card must be broken.

so, i removed the hd in prepation to sell it. in the process, i snapped a very very small peice of plastic which the mouse track pad click button pressed against when you pressed down on the mouse button. now without anything there, the mouse doesnt click. though nothing is wrong with the actual mouse. it just needs something to press up against. so that can be fixed easily, imho.

i emailed you a photo.

Alright, that shouldn't be too hard to fix. I'll have to find a new GFX card. How recently did you break that piece of plastic. Also, will you be formatting the HDD? I wouldn't have another to put into it if you were to remove it all together.

EDIT: well, this may be harder than i thought, being that there is no graphics card, and i have no clue where i would be able to get a replacement board for it.

lol

but to answer your questions - i broke the plastic when i opened up the laptop, um, a few months ago. its so small, i kept it for a while but then chucked it. you could literally glue anything small in its place. its just something for the mouse click button to press up against. its glued inside the machine, so noone would see it. anyways. id fix it myself if the comp actually worked. as for the HD, i took it out cause it had all my personal files on it. and i didnt know how to format it with the comp not working. id give the hd to you but.. how do i format it first? lol ill email you a pict, its so cute.

If you have any other PATA/ATA/SATA to USB bridge, you could manually format it through windows/Mac or something.

i have no cable or adaptor which fits that small hard drive i pulled from the 3400c.

Hmm... The only PATA drive I have is one from a Win 95 Dell laptop. I don't know how much faith you have in me to follow through, but I'd erase your data for you as soon as i get it. I'd record it and show you that upon opening the box that I'll format it. I'll PM it to you.

This is exactly where one of these $10 adapters comes in real handy, these units will convert any combination of drives into something you can work with.

I have 2, and I use them all the time. One of them had the PATA plug snap off, so it doesn't work anymore, but the other one works fine. Got both for free from school.
