This is why I rip rather than buy from iTunes

i think ripping movies is the only thing i have used my optical drive for in a long long time. Removed the one from my MBP and put a data doubler in place of it. Still have the one in my iMac though.

Nice, I haven't even seen The Muppet movie yet but I did buy "Smells like Teen Spirit" from iTunes.

You should. It's a wonderful movie, Brian Henson's done a lot to recapture the feel of his dad's work.


As to the topic at hand, I'm a movie nerd chick, I have to agree with the OP. I love my iTunes, but I find myself still buying movies/TV on Blu-Ray and ripping them. It's a mix of iTunesHD not quite being there in the A/V department, plus there's something about admiring the case art/extras.

This is part of why I'm still a big buyer of LPs over CD's and digital. The nice thing, some artists are including codes to download the albums in MP3, AAC, or FLAC formats.

I'll admit, I have impulse buys on iTunes; catchy tunes i hear on XM, and TV shows like MLP, Avengers and Young Justice. Though, by and large, I get my movies, and favorite TV shows (ie: BSG, Lost, etc) on disc and rip them for on the go.

I will, I haven't been to the theater in the past year since my daughter was born. Except the drive-in a few times. I am sure I will see it this year.

I bought a USB BluRay just for ripping. I had put a bluray in my last iMac, but it seems easier to just pull out the external when I want to rip something.

I can't believe anyone would still argue the App Store pricing model. I thought everyone understood the economics of selling a million apps at a couple bucks vs selling a thousand at $50. Apple gets it more than anyone, thus the big drops in FCPX and Aperture on the App Store.

Okay, I'm jealous... there I said it. Our last drive-in in the area closed down a while back. I used to go with my parents when I was little, I think that's why I became a movie/music nerd like them.

That sucks, I have two of them within a 20 minute drive from here, and another two within a 45 minute drive. My favorite one has a ice cream stand as well as a concession stand.

This is opening this weekend and has 2 screens, and we have changed to the 2nd screen for the 2nd movie in the past. If the length of the movies are right on you have a choice of 2 of 4 movies.
