He misunderstood, I think. He was measuring app icons to the curves on the device. We are talking about the home button. Sorry.
 
That's a pretty nice find, I have to say. I wonder if they'll change the icon if the iPhone 5 does have an elongated home button...
 
yup me too, I never paid attention to the shape either. Like one poster mentioned it would be sweet if they used this as a notification source.

I don't think Apple ever officially declared that was the case, but I had the same thought as the OP - it has to be an app icon silhouette.
 
Wow all these years and I didn't realize this.

I just figured Apple copied a controller button from Playstation. :p
 
Just wanted to update and say that this is pretty much confirmed now that the new iPod nano's are out. The home screen on the nano features circular buttons and on the home button on the new nano are... Circles!
