I am an idiot for not recording the chat transcript but I was talking to Apple via Chat to resolve this quick issue

- I want to return my iPhone 6 Plus for a 4.7 inch but the order was under my dad's name (his account etc)

The guy told me to bring my dad to exchange it "just in case"

I told him we live in different areas and the said the following:

"Oh man, that must be tough. I would miss my dad like crazy if we lived apart. Then again, it would be a lot easier if he bought me an iPhone 6"

I was absolutely shocked an Apple rep was blatantly trolling me. I closed the chat transcript instead of recording it LIKE AN IDIOT.

I think he was joking. But funny story nevertheless. Thanks for the chuckle.

Not seeing it as trolling at all. It could have been (at worst) a lead-in to some sort of scripted FaceTime features discussion or perhaps it was their way of lamenting that they didn't even have their own new iPhone yet.

No trolling, try understanding it like this:

"Oh man, that must be tough. I would miss my dad like crazy if we lived apart. (meaning this person has a close bond with their father) Then again, it would be a lot easier if he bought me an iPhone 6 (meaning, jokingly because material items cannot replace a family bond and this person obviously feels that way, he wishes his father would buy him an iPhone.) "

I don't understand what was rude at all.
As the Rep, if I got a complaint for that, Id be (unnecessarily)
paranoid going forward.

Why do people get offended by everything? My gosh man, you need to lighten up. Better file a lawsuit against Apple now for the unforgivable way he conducted his conversation with you

Yeah there's nothing scandalous there. The guy was joking.

Yeah he needs to retake Banter 101 if that apple rep wants to be a real arch bishop of banterbury.

I don't thing he meant anything nastily though. Just friendly banter, in an awkward and uncomfortable way.

I think if my dad bought an iPhone 6+, I would keep to remind me how cool my dad is.

I just think the rep was being friendly and see nothing wrong with the conversation. Beats the normal online chat that's so boring you would swear it was a computer on the other end.

Your in for a shock on MR ..... ;)

I've dealt with Apple's call centers several times, and they are definitely instructed to be more personal and friendly. It's pretty much a job requirement for them. They always make small talk with you in between technical questions.

I think the tech was complimenting the iPhone 6 more than he was commenting on your dad buying the phone.
