What gets me is there are probably people posting here who would have a heart attack if another poster uttered something racist or homophobic. But disabled people are even more of a minority/at a greater disadvantage/afflicted/[insert any other negative attribute you can think of] than either of those groups, yet the word spaz doesn't even register on their scale of offence. Bloody typical double standards.

Awful word. Using the excuse that the meaning has changed doesn't hold water, either. It's the same as using the N word as a joke.
 
I had no idea that the word spaz was originally used as a derogatory term for disabled people before this thread. I always thought it meant someone who had a lot of uncontrollable energy or something.
