Look in the right side of this photo. I shot this with Camera+ and uploaded it straight to Flickr (finally trying to start a collection there). Anyway, is it normal to see the bands of color that you see in this photo? I have other pics with this same thing going on. I mostly notice this in indoor lighting.

Ok. My afternoon got busy and this is what I did when I got home. Everything below here is taken with the Apple Camera app. Just so we don't blame Camera+. :D

I'm noticing that it happens on solid colors and in shadows.

Indoor, same room:

Outdoor with sun to my back:

Is the window glass polarized/treated? If so - that could explain the color banding

I'm not sure about the window. I know it's dual panes and is tinted. I'll dig for another in a few minutes. I gotta run for the moment.

I think it's just a glossy effect caused by the glass itself and the water on the glass. Or my other answer going to be....

DOUBLE RAINBOW ALL THE WAY!!

It's the glass, not the camera. The same happens if you try to take a shot through the tinted windows of cars.

It looks like Camera+ tried to increase the saturation / vibrancy of the colors in the photo and over-compensated.

Its the iPhone camera picking up the treatments to the glass, to make it UV protective etc.

:p :p :p

The OP said it happened in other pictures. I assume this picture most clearly shows the issue.

Try taking picture of a while piece of paper or a black one. Looks like a hardware issue to me though. That doesn't really look like any photographic phenomena I know of.

Okay, seriously. None of my photos look like the ones in the photo thread. I see none of the issues I have with the ones in that thread.

So that's bad hardware and I need to take it in huh?

The only other things that come to mind:

Does it do the same thing with the regular camera app? (OP has since edited the first post, yes it does)
Have you looked at the camera lens--dirty? (that almost looks like an oil slick of some kind) Covered with a screen protector?

If those aren't it, then yes, I'd say it's a hardware issue. :(

BS. Look at the photo thread, not a single photo I saw there has the same pattern. It look like the lens may have something on it, or perhaps is dirty inside the phone or something. Exchange it if it bothers you.
