Sounds like you mean being off by over 3 years or so. That said, something like that was hardly that much of a complicated guess to make with OS X being around for years.
BUT their guess was the 2015 iPhone was gonna be called the iPhone X. 2015 is 2 years earlier then the release of the actual iPhone X. They weren’t using “X” as an unknown. They were saying it was the tenth iPhone so they were using the Roman numeral X.Using the letter X for the unknown is a pretty common practice.

However, that's not what I was referring to. The initial post made by the OP in the thread you indicated was dated back in 2014 of April, that's three years ago, not two. Using the letter X for the unknown is a pretty common practice.
