Sites can be overvalued, especially when there's a bit of a 'bubble' in the industry going on like what I think is happening now. There are a load of startups out there launching every day, with no real plan or way of a business plan or expansion. I don't think it's as bad at the '90s bubble we had at the very start of the Internet 'revolution', but I still think it's happening.

I don't think they are looking to sell, but there are those looking to buy

Wow

This place is worth at LEAST 3 mil and I would dare say that estimate will double in 2 years.

This site is an online gold mine and the owners would be foolish to sell it and I imagine they know this as they have implemented a very successful basic infrastructure. Given Apple's continuous expansion of both new product and actual products sold, this translates into more people using Apple products, which translates into a larger potential for more people looking for help/community/etc., which results in more publicity for MR, and obviously a higher value.

Where else, other than major forums, can you market a product and be sure that your advertisements go directly to people who could use the product and therefore have a reason to buy. It isn't about how many people you reach in the world of advertising, it is about how many people you reach that have the potential to buy/use your product/service/etc.

I question any site that uses Alexa as the source for data. For Alexa to actually work you have to have the Alexa toolbar installed. Do YOU actually know anybody that has it installed? Because I don't.

I know for our website, based on our logs we get upwards of 1000 times the traffic that Alexa reports (and we are no small fry, in the top 1000 at Alexa)

Damn, that sucks. This place used to be worth $20 million, but that was when I was posting more often and spreading my valuable input all over the place. Coincidence? :p

Don't be silly. Every time a Verizon thread is started, the site is worth $120,364 less.

I would think the price is probably correct ... websiteoutlook valued a friend's website at 5.6 million dollars and he sold it for 5.9 million.

I feel bad for the shmuck who paid that much. These sites aren't an accurate source. Website analytics, monthly income, unique traffic, number of advertisers, post or content quality, unique content, active posters versus non-active and or spam accounts that have been disabled, costs for monthly maintenance, staff salary, etc. All of which are only made available to the owner.

All those factor in to what a site's real worth is. I've bought and sold communities in the past, and this is the proven method for evaluating how much a site is worth, and how much it can be sold for. These sites base themselves on Alexa, PR, and other useless figures when it comes to placing a legitimate value on a site. For fun I entered 3 domains I've had for years but didn't do anything with them and there was no record of any of them being used when I purchased them. They're all valued between 100-20,834.52... As accurate as Helen Keller being a sniper.

Feel free to message me the name of your friend's business and so that I can see if I can sell him three worthless domains and get 2 months worth of paycheck for free.

I am pretty sure the person who purchases or is about to purchase does their homework and or due diligence before they plop down that type of money.

Here is the answer as to how he sold it for 5.9 million ... His site has 2.5 million unique daily visitors and has Ad Revenue of $7,500 per day
