I was in the Kindle app reading and it started flickering. I closed the app and then it opened Safari by itself and proceeded to open on various links, all the while zooming in and out. I turned it off and did a hard reboot. After turning back on, was ok for a short while then started again. I can't have this!

See if it happens after a while of use without running the Kindle app.

If your iPad is jailbroken, you may have a virus. Or could be the books that you are reading, are they legitimate books that you purchased ?

I highly doubt it. I think it would make news if an iphone OS virus even existed.

    Holy Water? :D

Seriously, have you called Apple about this? If you have an Apple store nearby, call & make a Genius appointment to let them duplicate the zany behavior.

iPhone viruses do exist, but only on the jailbroken devices.

link? I've heard of exploits that people have found but I don't think anyone has used them maliciously

Try google searching for iPhone and virus. Here is a sample of one:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/iphone-virus-botnet-bank-details,9136.html

The problem is that unless you run a virus checker on your phone, you won't know if you are infected. That is one of the risks of loading apps from other sources other than the Apple store. At least Apple verifies their apps to be safe before releasing to the public.

    Just rec'd the 32gig 3g Monday; it's not jailbroken.
I bought the book on amazon, kindle edition, a few weeks ago. Sinced my ipad to kindle via wifi and all went well. Have been reading it since Tuesday with no problems until tonight. I have not purchased anything using the ipad.

I'll call Apple tomorrow as I'm not near a store. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds kind of like the problem I had when my iPhone was jail broken. The voice command thing would launch itself and then it would start playing a random song.

I don't think it sounds anything like that. No voice commands browse the net for you, scrolling and zooming.

To the OP: Has it happened again? When it was browsing, did it seem random or deliberate?

The iPad does reload pages you had open last time you were in Safari, even if it has been turned completely off. So that part isn't necessarily surprising.

Amazon will do whatever it takes to sell their Kindle device.

In related news, my dogs were playing Rum and Coca Cola on iTunes when I got home last night.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse that were on my sofa, apparently they rolled around on them and activated keys/buttons that achieved this. At least, I hope that's what happened.

As for the iPad problem ... hopefully it's a hiccup and not a sign of major problems. Good luck with it. I feel lucky that my iPad is, so far, perfect ... an exchange would be a hassle at this point with supplies so short.

I must have misunderstood the OP, since nobody else seems fascinated. I thought this thing was browsing by itself, like it was being controlled. Following links and zooming in and out, isn't that what the OP said?
