Going all the way back… The iPhone 15 Pro is my 8th iPhone day 1 purchase. Coming from a 12 Pro. The upgrades have been great. The speed of the A17 Pro, extra RAM, USB-C, WiFi 6e, battery… etc have all been great upgrades I’ve noticed in my daily use.

However, I’ve also noticed this phone feels less rugged and more delicate than any other iPhone I’ve owned. Even in a full body case and a screen protector.

In less than a week of use, I’ve already noticed the titanium area near the USB-C port scratching from the cable itself. Unless it is perfectly inserted every time, which is harder to do than the lightening port was, the metal on titanium has already started to leave scratches.

This is after only a few days of normal basic use. Charging my iPhone 12 or previous model with a cord was never a concern in the slightest. However, now with a titanium frame and a USB-C port… I have to carefully make sure it is perfectly inserted every time to avoid scratches.

I’m not enjoying this at all. I’m sure it will eventually scratch anyways and I’ll just give up on trying to preserve the exposed portions of the phone. However, it just seems titanium was a downgrade from stainless steel.

Anyone else noticing such issues yet?

While I personally disagree, I can understand your perspective. Your 12 Pro was shiny and had some heft (comparatively speaking) and that automatically signals to my brain “high quality”. So I get it, and yes, the 15s definitely feel more…let’s say utilitarian in the hand :). I can also understand some concerns about the coating on the titanium band, especially if you got a non-natural color. And I low-key kinda miss the lightening connector too.

I got the natural titanium 15 Pro Max and I love it. It might not matter as much for the Pro but the weight difference with the Max is a huge improvement in day-to-day use. I also personally like the natural titanium asthetic, it reminds me of the muted gold of the iPhone 5S (one of my favorite colors).

You seem convinced but maybe give it another week before you send it back? Could be enough time to get used to it or at least solidify your decision to return it.

love the 5S.

I bought the OG SE in gold top storage as a back up phone sitting around.

I’m a watch guy. Stainless steel watches have always felt solid, there’s a perception of strength from the weight. Then I’d get a titanium watch and my perception was that it felt like a plastic toy next to my steel watches. The reality is it’s stronger, but the lower weight from what I’m used to changes that perception. In my experience, Titanium does tend to scratch easier.

I can assure you, outside of the scratches, this metal is stronger than steel. I’m enjoying the lighter weight on the 15 Pro Max, MUCH more usable than before.
