The cord doesn't even reach my bed that's right next to my night stand. Had to get a longer cable.

OP should get quality 3rd party lighting cables. I've have quite a few up to 6 feet. Rarely use the supplied cable.

Yep, if you want to use it while charging, you'll need an extension.

I bought an oem, authentic lighting cable from the Apple Store that is pretty long. I think 6 feet. It's plenty long from the wall outlet behind my bed to my phone in my bed

Two 3 footer for the car and my mobile gears.

A 6 footer for the daily dresser charging, AC is a little ways down there.

A 10 footer for the iTunes box which sit tucked in a closet, when I need to cable-sync.


But I do Thnx Apple for the super soft, supple, feels super Monster premium cable, and that's sarcasm too.

That's the way we use it. Apple charger to a 2ft extension. Just using standard USB cable
