Quite the opposite. I find the Mac a waste. All my Macs have Bootcamp installed, most with Windows XP (or 1 Windows 7). I spend around 90% of my time in Windows - only going to OSX to add photos to iPhoto, download emails (iPod takes care of them usually) and sync with my iPod.
I am in a similar situation 5 years into using OS X. It is an annoyance to maintain an OS X based system for the majority of my personal data that is not currently over on Windows.

I spend most of my time on my Windows 7 tower but my Macbook makes for a nice guest machine, iTunes server, or low power download box.

I will probably end up replacing it with a MacBook Air alongside my desktop and a future M11 R3/M14x from Alienware. If my Macbook is still in working condition I already have a few people in my peer group that would be quite willing to purchase it. That would be more than enough to offset the costs of newer hardware to near chump change. It might be able to pull something off with a refurbished 15" Macbook Pro though if the GPUs manage to trickle down to the $1,799 model.

Yeah, I planned on buying a Macbook and a home built gaming PC for my next upgrade. But those iMac displays seduced me, and once you factor in buying a comparable Dell you're not too far off that iMac. (at least in the UK)

I have two Macs, a 27 inch i7 iMac and a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro. I use my Macs for 98% of everything and rarely touch my custom built core i7 x980. I do game, but all my games run on Mac, like WoW, SC2, CS:S and minecraft. I use to be a heavy gamer and played a huge variety of games, which is why I have the x980, but now I just play a select few games I know I will be playing for awhile, and they all run on the Mac.

I'm a Computer Science Major. I built a work/gaming rig (linux/win.) with 28" monitor for building bigger programs, gaming, other windows only programming items. I just recently bought a macbook pro 13" for programming in class, light graphic design work, and learning to work with designing apple programs (apps, etc...) I really enjoy both of my machines. I get my upgrading/tinkering fix with my desktop and I get to explore a new OS. Plus it's one of the better built notebooks that I've been able to find.

One thing that is a huge plus for me in my field is working within all three OS's (placing all linux distro's together). It really gives me a bit of an advantage, seeing that only 2% of CS majors at my university. I will get the best of all worlds and can be pretty unbiased when it comes to the many inevitable "mac vs pc" arguments.

I will tell you one thing. It doesn't matter what I say or what I think, you will never get so many "wtf" looks as you do when you walk into a classroom of CS majors with a macbook pro. :p
