Those of you that went from a smaller sized phone to the max…did you get used to the size? How long did it take? Did you get used to the heaviness in the hand? Phone is amazing but feels so big! If anyone wants to share their experiences I would love to hear!

I had an iPhone SE(the original) before migrating to an XR in 2019 before upgrading to the 13PM on launch day; After a brief adjustment period, I just got used to the larger screen size. I also have an Apple silicone case on it along with an Apple Wallet on the back, so it's a little heavier and larger than just a naked phone, but I've enjoyed leaving the house with just my phone. It's definitely not as convenient as a smaller phone to pocket, but for me, the tradeoffs are more than worth it. I most certainly could have gotten by with just the Pro, but figured I'd go with the larger screen on the PM instead.

I've had the 7 Plus, 8, X, XS, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, and now the 13 Pro.

I can never get used to the size, but that's me, and also, one hand usage is paramount for me nowadays, personally.

I went from the iPhone 5 to the 6+ back in 2015. It took me less than 10 minutes to get used to the size and I swore I'd never go back to using a phone smaller than that ever again.

I like heavier phones because I like how the weight feels in my hand. So also getting used to the weight was a benefit for me. If a phone is too light I tend to let my grip loosen and that becomes a problem when handling the device.

Note: I don't use my device as a substitute computer or television/radio. I have real computers, TVs and software for that. Consequently, I'm not usually using my phone so long that the heaviness becomes a problem.

Went from a 12 to 13 Pro Max last October. At first it was pretty unwieldy especially when using one handed.

Took me about 13 days or so to get accustom to the new size and weight, after that it has been plain sailing.

Getting a good grippy case really helps.

Love the screen size, ProMotion, fantastic camera system but the most outstanding feature to me is it’s insane battery life.

When the 12 series came out I opted for the 6.7" 12 pro max. I had two weeks to decide if I wanted to keep it or just get the pro (I was coming from a 5.8" iPhone X). The extra screen real estate was great however the weight / profile was noticeable as well. I work out regularly so I wasn't entirely sure if it was a good move.

I read through countless threads on here with those comparisons and decided to jump back to the 6.1" Pro. Although the smaller size was great for one handed use, I do miss the extra screen real estate. So when the 14 series comes I will most likely be jumping to the pro max this time around.

Crazy to think it’s getting to the stage where 6.1 is considered small. To me that’s about the perfect size

I agree. I used to have the larger phones but when I got the XS Max it was just a tad heavier which put it over for me. Plus I couldn’t get that phone to work - poor cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth. Just terrible. Tried 2 different ones 6 months apart but returned them both. Actually bought an X Pro from Best Buy. One of my favorite phones - still going strong with my grandson.

I have the 12 Pro now which has also been a great phone.

I went from the SE3 to 13 PM a month ago. Albeit it’s not my first time with a Max sized iPhone. The change is noticeable for a couple of days. After handling it for about a week, I grew accustomed to it. Unless you use really small hands, the Max shouldn’t be difficult to handle on a day-to-day basis.

It is. For me, battery life overheads is key and for that I would opt for the Max model always.

I’d give it a month or two to adjust.

I had both the 13 Mini and 13 Pro Max in my hands for over an hour at the Apple Store when deciding between the two. While I liked the Mini for a couple of reasons, at the same time I knew I wanted the biggest screen, best cameras, and largest battery.

Even if it feels uncomfortable early on, remember that the human brain is amazingly adaptable. Think of it like changing your diet from one of unhealthy junk food to whole food plant based, at first it’s uncomfortable because your taste buds are used to salty, sugary processed junk… but eventually your palette changes to crave the healthy foods.

Another trick is to think back to the reasons why you went with the Pro Max to begin with. Mine are above and any time I get an itch to go for a smaller phone I think back to these 3 things and it settles any motion of switching.

Final trick I would say is to experiment with cases. Having thick heavy case can make the 13 Pro Max feel unwieldy, yet there are super thin cases out there which weigh hardly anything and can make your Pro Max feel much lighter (given you can avoid dropping your phone since the thin cases normally only provide scratch protection).

IPhone 3gs to
Samsung S20 FE to
iPhone 13 Pro Max

There was a multi year gap between the 3gs and the s20. I’d refused to have a work cell phome where I could be reached off hours. The 3gs went at blinding speed into a wall 😜

The S20 seemed awkward and kludgy, but I think that was because I hadn’t used a cell phone in many years. I only bought that b/c I was moving rural and needed it in case of a dialysis emergency.

The 13 Pro Max I just got 6 days ago. It seems really tiny b/c I’ve lived the last 3.5 yrs with a 12.9 Ipad Pro glued to my hand. No, no adjustment. There’s a bit of added dimension since it went into an Otterbox on day 1.

When working I would do 1000’s of manipulations w/analytical pipettes a week so am used to holding/fiddling.

I went from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6+ in 2015 too and while I really liked the screen, I hated how heavy and bulky it was in my pocket. I use an iPhone Mini now and I like it.

Since I was old enough to be allowed to choose my own clothes, my preference has always been jeans and a t-shirt. When I realized that Levis made denim shorts I went all in. Once I discovered carpenter shorts and pants (in denim) I went all in.

I've been wearing various manufacturer carpenter shorts and pants for over 20 years now. Since about 2017 though it's been Dickies. More than enough pockets and sometimes I'm carrying both my 11 Pro Max AND my 6s+.

I also use a belt. My job does not require dress clothes. I do not leave my phone(s) in my pocket(s) when sitting down.

So, I've never noticed the weight. I'm sure I would if I were wearing shorts/pants made of thinner material or small pockets though. But it's just a non-issue for me.

I will say that back when I was carrying around two 17" PowerBooks in one shoulder bag I did notice THAT weight.

Well I went from the iPhone 4 to the galaxy note 1 and loved the bigger screen. Then I went from the galaxy note to the S4 and didn’t like going back down to the a smaller size. Went from the S4 to the 5S and within 28 days I was back to the galaxy note 3.

Later on I went from the note 3 to S5 and didn’t like the smaller screen size. I was happy to upgrade to the iPhone 6+ a few months later. I’ve always had the plus/pro max iPhones ever since apart from the awful year I was forced into getting the iPhone X. It was just too small. I jumped on the Xs max as soon as it came out. I just enjoy larger phones more. I’ve been on the phablet train since 2012.

The pocket thing is what made me go back to a smaller phone. I had to stand up to get it out of my pocket and take it out of my pocket to walk up stairs.

I loved it in my hand but hated it in my pocket.

I'm hoping they always have a mini because I already have an iPad mini that I use to browse the web on the go. I rather have a phone that I can fit in my pocket easily.

Same. I went bigger as soon as 6+ released. When I saw someone's 5 later, I couldn't understand how I used it. My hand buried it

There was a time where I actually thought my iPhone 5 was a bigger phone.

HTC Touch Pro, May 2009 to September 2012. iPhone 3GS, Christmas 2011 to September 2012 (as a secondary phone, WiFi only). And then my 5.

I’m wondering about this too. Always hated bigger phones. I got the XR and loved it so much I got used to the size. Now the 12/13 6.1 seems standard. I don’t know how I managed on a tiny screen.

But I’m thinking of getting the 14 PM this year. Because I feel like a change.

I’m just not 100% yet.
