Sharing this incase others find themselves in same situation. For two days I thought my ATV remote (4K version) was broken. Turned out it just needed repairing. Press the menu and volume up buttons for 3 seconds within a couple inches from the apple tv box.
I thought I had to buy a new one for $70 bucks. Glad I found out beforehand.
