I drove to the apple store (about 180 miles round trip) and purchased a 17" 2.8 with iwork and carrying bag.

When I got home I realized they gave me the antiglare, not glossy display. I never noticed the price difference because of the other items I purchased.

What should I do?
This will cost me more time (around 3 hours), money for gas.

Frustrated...

Talk to Apple Support by phone and hopefully something will be done.

The store did not have any 17" matte displays on the floor.
I have no idea if it is an improvement over glossy.

How would it look watching movies?

consider yourself lucky :)

Can you explain why?

so i am assuming you got charged extra for it, yes? I would call the apple store where you bought it and explain to them.. maybe they will refund you the difference and you can keep the machine since you are far away..

I wouldn't be able to go through the pain of returning it. If this happened to me I would definitely be using it.

There you go...

My fault, I did not explain clearly.

I guess, I could also buy a 24" glossy monitor for movies later.

Now you're thinkin! You can have the best of both worlds. A laptop that can actually be used as a portable machine that can be viewed in you lap no matter where you are, and a external monitor so you can get the "POP" that every one keep talkin about.

Most people prefer matte over glossy...though I've never noticed a difference when watching movies, at least in the dark. Daytime, I imagine the matte would be better.

The problem with that, is if I do not like it, I would have to eat 10% restock fee. I am almost tempted, cause I am thinking I might like it.

I will call them tomorrow.
Managers in Apple retail stores have some ability to waive the restock fees. If you were given a matte when you asked for an anti-glare (and wanted to return it), I'd be very surprised if they didn't waive the restock fee.

I was just going to suggest this. :)

Agree. If the OP asked for a glossy display and received an antiglare one and wanted to return it.

FWIW, antiglare and matte are the same. Apple uses the term antiglare to indicate a matte screen.

U should have opened up the box to inspect your machine for any flaws before driving back home.

That's also not a compelling argument in the first place. If you ask for a certain model, you can and should expect the salesperson to be competent enough to hold that in his memory buffer for 5 minutes while he/she goes to retrieve the model you asked for. The customer is always right.

...so were you actually charged the extra price for the matte display on the laptop?

Or did they just hand you the wrong machine.... what does your receipt say?

Don't they scan the box when it's purchased? I can't imagine him paying for glossy, and getting matte.

I personally feel people over-exaggerate in regards to the glossy display. I've used mine in direct sunlight, indoors, outdoors, etc, and I've never had any issues.

Return it and take the 10% restock hit. Most people who have bought matte have lived to regret it.
