Has anyone changed their mind about the iPhone X after using the IOS 12 Beta for awhile. I had a X when it came out, and for a number of reasons I just wasn't ready for it or it wasn't ready for me. So, has the use of Beta 12 affected your thoughts, either way, about the X?

I got an X two weeks ago and was annoyed by things like the way you had to close apps on iOS 11. Now under iOS 12, with the exception of some App Store issues mentioned in another thread, I’m absolutely loving it.

Definitely feel the X runs and just works better under iOS 12.

iOS 12, in beta, runs better than iOS 11 here as well. Isn’t that sad? Lol. That shows us how inconsistent and messy iOS 11 has been.

Same thing with my iPhone SE. iOS 12 makes it run like it’s brand new.

On the other hand it can be more that it shows that additional work and attention went into iOS 12 as was essentially promised/mentioned when it comes to performance, especially on older devices.

Either way, the focus should have been changed back around iOS 9 (when they first claimed they were focusing on performance). I'm normally not one to wish ill upon others but I hope somebody was fired or demoted over the debacle that was iOS 11.

Can't say ios 12 runs better than ios 11 except faceid seems a tad faster. screen time lost its freshness after a few days now I hardly care how many times I pick up my x anymore (it just failed as I checked, no todays data showed, reboot doesn't work, had to reset and wipe out history). AR? forgot about it a few days after getting x, and again one day after using the measure app. GB4 doesn't show improvement either. So it doesn't give me trouble, but doesn't show much improvement either.

Has anyone tried using Face ID on their side? That is supposed to work now, yes?

And has anyone noticed if there are additional improvements to smart invert?

If you hold the X in landscape and your face is as well (like it would be if you were in bed on the side), then that works.

If you hold the X in landscape but your face is not on the side (like it might be on a car phone holder while navigating) then FaceID won't recognise you.

That's all iOS 12 PB2.

I am curious to see how they will handle this with the new iPads with FaceID. They are often held in landscape mode so I am hoping this can be sorted with a software update for the iPhones too.

Cheers!

One of my most frustrating things about face ID currently is lying in bed and being unable to use face ID.

I hadn't thought about the landscape scenario though, thank you for sharing that information as well

They're going to have to do something for the new iPads for sure. I do use mine in landscape mode most commonly, but also upside down when I am charging it (so the lightning cable goes out the top) which helps when I'm writing or making notes. Touch ID works upside-down and landscape without issues

Except how pile of dung Face ID is, I love everything about iPhone X on iOS 12. They just need to get call fail issue sorted by next release and we are cool!

I’ve loved my X since launch day, and I love it even more with iOS 12. 11 wasn’t the horrible OS the bandwagon would have you believe, but 12 really nails it.

Weird.

Every morning and night I lie in bed and use my X (as I am now), which involves FaceID usage, and I never have an issue with it.

I took the plunge to iOS 12 about 2-3 days ago..
initially I thought it was a step back from iOS 11.. but after all the indexing etc..
this beta is fast! Not a huge battery drain problem.
Only problems I’m having is screen time crash in settings (worked for the first 24 hours). FaceTime won’t reactivate the camera if you go out of the call to send a message or go to another app. And the lock screen time bug. Which just happened for the first time this morning..
Other than that! I have had zero problems with any apps. No frame drops. No missed calls.. no resprings.

But after using it.. this shouldn’t be called iOS 12.. more like iOS 11.5

I am not running iOS 12 beta on my iPhone X, so that functionality isn't available to me, but I plan to update to it by August

It’s pretty good. Some little bugs but overall it’s solid. The change to closing apps is lame though. It was faster to hit the red minus sign to close apps then swipe away one at a time. They should’ve kept that.

Installed the public beta today on my X.
Works great! Noticeably faster. Will report back if I have any major issues.

It also seems to work very nicely on my iPad Pro.

100% correct. And it also shows that all along it was a conscious decision to make iOS run worse on older devices.

I think that iOS 11 has turned out to the most problematic and least loved version of iOS, ever.

I've had an iPhone since the days of iOS 4 and I simply can't remember a version since then that was as bad as 11.

Every major version upgrade made my phone better, but iOS 11 has made it worser!

Loved my iPhone X since day 1, I think the most bugging issue I had was closing and switching apps. Got on the first dev Beta of iOS 12 and I'll admit, I'm actually using my phone more then running to my iPad for a lot of things. Now that it's not a headache to get out of apps or accidentally switch into an app off a tap. The Face ID has been a good experience for me, except for day 1. The first day my son unlocked my phone, so I turned off Face ID, restarted my phone and set it back up again and handed it to him, he couldn't do it again. Now what happens is the best way, it actually locks down the phone were I have to put in my passcode after he stares at the screen too long. I have a bug I've reported with some people I get text from, I see the notification but the message isn't in the message app unless I start a new text to that person and then I can see the whole thread but the moment I leave the thread, it goes missing again. The issue doesn't duplicated on my iPad Pro also running Beta or my Macs (one in Mojave and the other still on High Sierra)

You can slide two apps at once ... sliding is much faster, IMO. :)
