that's most definately up to the person. Watching movies on a 12" screen is painful, but typing up one document in MS Word isn't really that painful. Plus, it's not half bad with Exposé :p

I have a 19” monitor on my pc for watching movies! I've played with the 12” and I think is perfect for surfing the web and word processing on the road.

well... I got the ibook!!! thank you all for the help!!!

Congratulations! You will enjoy it greatly, I have no doubt. Check it out, to make sure that everything is A OK w/ it, and then just plunge in and use it!

thank you oldCorpse. I also got the Office:Mac, mighty mouse, a wi-fi router and I am waiting now until it is charged. I am thinking about a web-cam and a memory upgrade since I saved some money.

Whatever you do, get as much memory as you can - you can put an extra 1GB stick of RAM in your iBook. I'd sooner not buy the webcam, if it prevented me from buying the most memory I can. Enjoy!

Mac os experience, that stuff was hot!!! I am confused about how the applications are being installed, since I download firefox. Use it and then lost it! I will figure it out, after the battery calibration I am gonna format the drive and perform a clean install.

Most applications come in the form of a .dmg ( disk image )
or a .pkg. ( package )

Depending on the developer, you either get a full installer that prompts you
to continue or
You will see the application icon, with directions to drag the icon into your
Applications Folder.

For the drag install, simply double click on your desktop Hard Drive icon
to open, then drag the installer icon directly into your Applications Folder.

Some applications will require authorization after the first time you open
the application.

If the Application icon disappears from your dock, then open it from your
Applictions folder and the icon will appear again in your dock.
Control or right click on the dock icon and select keep in dock.

The application ON arrows below the dock icon tell you if the application
is running.

You can control click the dock icon or in the upper left fie menu to quit.

Yes but screen spanning doctor will allow you to screen span from an ibook thus cancelling out this pb advantage. I love screen spanning from my ibook (which is on a icurve, hooked up to kb and mighty mouse and 17' Samsumg LCD when it is home).

I have a 14 inch 133 with maxed ram. It is a great and economical machine. It was bought for me by my univ. dept. If I had had my own choice, though, I would have gone for the 12 inch for portability (but the 14 inch is not bad compared to my former toshica brick).

spanning with the 14 inch ibook sucks

it's so slow and choppy, and even when i run it in clamshell mode with all the 32 mb vram on the external display, it is still choppy.

i was thinking about downsizing to a 12" laptop as well and i was looking at the powerbook.
