8GB is more than fine for your use. If you get stuttering it will be because of a lack of CPU or GPU.

If i see correctly, adobe is using 12gb ram... so swapping or running it on ram? I choose ram rather than seeing paging all the time.

My current mbpr has only 8gb ram and paging few gigs.

Adobe WHAT? PS uses about 2.5 GB.

People don't seem to understand that 8GB with these insanely fast SSD drives can handle any photo job.

In the benchmarks they compared the time it took to encode video on both 16 and 8 gig configurations.

I dont think there will be noticeable difference between 8 and 16 for a typical user, but if you do some certain things like running vm or uses software like After effects then the ram makes a difference.

It took identical amount of time for both.

But werent those tests on that site more or less cpu intense tasks rather than ram intense? For example transcoding depends more on the cpu. When i have been using e.g. After effects it jumped straight to the 10gb ram usage and the difference between 8 and 16 is noticeable.

I went 16gb because as an Apple Genius once said, and he was correct, upgrading memory is the best way to future-proof a Mac.

Your investment will last longer with more memory, and in the short-term, you'll see performance bump.
