Hi,

I'm relatively new to this forum and the world of Macs too. Bought my first ever Mac (MacBook Pro) only a couple of months ago and am loving it & pleased with my purchase.

I had a bit of a dilemma with my photos though. I have tonnes of old photos and plan to continue adding photos to my collections. I am not interested in any Cloud storage - I like having them in one place on my computer (and I do back them up). However, I did not like the Photos app that was on my MBP. I trialled a few other apps but wasn't impressed either until I came across Adobe's Lightroom 6. I signed up to a 30-day trial and really liked it. I saw that the price of it was £89.00 on Amazon which I thought was quite high. It has now gone up to £95.00.

But since my 30-day trial expired the other day Lightroom still opens up on my MBP and warns of 'reduced functionality'. It still allows me to sort folders etc which is the main reason I wanted it anyway. Will it continue to let me use it like this do you know?

I would quite like to buy the full version but am a tad skint at the moment with Christmas around the corner and the fact I've spent all of my money on purchasing my MacBook Pro!

Would love to know your thoughts and how good Lightroom 6 really is, as I probably don't appreciate even half of what it can do yet.

Thank you.

Ditto the check out of the DP Forum. That written, I read this over on the MW a few days ago - http://www.macworld.com/article/300...e-to-sweet-photo-editing-app-does-it-all.html - DLed a demo and its file management system is really, really nice. I've got a few months left on my Adobe CC subscription and all I really want is a decent file manager to complete my move from that platform. On 1's new app - a move away from just the plug-in side of things - seems to be a great option for me to move away from Lightroom. I can't endorse Photo 10 yet, but it's handled everything I've thrown at it so far...

I do like LR, but I'm liking Photo 10 better, so far.

I wasn't aware of it at all. It looks like it may very well be good, but there are two primary considerations for me in a photo editing program.

1. For years I went against the flow and used Aperture, which I felt at the time was better than Lightroom, but I got burned when Apple abandoned the product and left me with thousands of orphaned images. So, this time my prime criterion for an editing program is whether it will still be around in ten years time. I think Lightroom is the program that is most likely to survive.

2. Lightroom has an incredible array of on-line tutorials, help pages and forums. If there is something I don't know how to do, I can find out how to do it quickly. If I can't find it online, there are probably 60 people in my club using Lightroom to help me.

So I guess what I am saying is that there is value in sticking with the mainstream and it would take a pretty compelling reason for me to switch from Lightroom. In any case, I think it is a great program and I am perfectly happy with it.
