Verizon locks down Google wallet which theoretically would be the only time I'd use NFC. Not to mention I haven't seen any acceptance of NFC anywhere here in Ohio.

Also, the NFC tags I don't quite understand. My phone automatically connects to bluetooth in my car once I start it within 5 seconds.

I used my Nexus 4 and Google Wallet to pay for groceries at Meijer all the time. One of the big issues is that a lot of places don't have their terminals setup. So even though they have the logo, their terminals won't work with it.

I use it every once in a while nowadays. I used to use NFC daily with my Nexus 4. I had tags setup around my house to do various things. Like a tag at my front door to turn my wifi and screen locking on and off. A tag near my Jambox speaker to turn on bluetooth and Pandora. However since I changed to the Galaxy S4, which can't use older NFC tags, I haven't used it much outside of transferring pictures and stuff between devices. I just haven't bothered getting new tags.

It works great cell phone to cell phone, but mating up a cell to something like the Nexus 7 is a pain. The size difference means you have to guess where to place your device to it. You can also use it to transfer contact cards to another device. Which could be helpful given the right situation.

Stupid verizon

In Houston Texas. NFC terminals are everywhere, even on my hospital's vending machines. Use it all the time. People always give me looks when I tap my phone on the vending machine and make my selection.

I really don't have any places to use GWallet here in Boston. So stupid

You must not have looked hard. I live in the new jersey suburbs and use it all of the time. Petco, quik check, wegmans, best buy, wawa, McDonalds, and tons of other places. Works great on my Verizon galaxy nexus.

Why are post like this ignored. In 2-3 post someone in a large city will say "no place accepts it around here!".

For me it isn't that important because there aren't many places that accept it

Here a video that's kind of old, but shows some of possibilities.

I feel by our response you are thinking of NFC as a payment option only. There are so many things it can do.

It can replace any card in your wallet (credit card/membership card/bus or train pass) and do much more. I put a Korean subway pass (used acetone to remove it from the card) in my phone when I lived there so I always had it on me, this was over 10 years ago and to this day I wonder what's taking this so long to catch on.

Why would people eat craps at McDo or change their shopping hobbits just so they could use NFC? :D

It does not matter. If most people with smartNFC do not shop (or even avoid like a plague) any of those, why would they, when their current favorite shops traditional payment systems are just as easy/convenient/painless/safer. It is a gimmick, cool I have and been using it, meh.

iKnow. And they are not earth-shattering / life changing too, so why bother? :D

Why are people surprised that ma and pa shop don't and will never carry a means of mobile payment?

I haven't eaten any fast food aside from Subway for about 6 years however plenty of other places carry it. I'm sure someone that is a particular shopper has ventured into a chain drug store (CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid) or a big hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes) maybe they've even bought gas for their car...who knows! Lol

Just because you avoid one place doesn't mean you avoid them all.

I used it once at a machine and it charged me twice. Never again will I buy a drink from a vending machine using those nfc machines.
I had a worse experience. I put an honest to goodness hard-earned US dollar into one of those new machines that accept dollar bills. I did not get my Coke and had no more dollar bills, so went thirsty. Never again will I buy a drink from a vending machine using those dollar bill readers.

Never say never. :)

That's why I only insert coins now :)

It seemed cool when I first used it but I rather pay with NFC at an actual location where I can speak with a cashier or manager in case something goes wrong like at a Macys.

NFC has proven itself in countries like Japan because they've embraced it. Here in the USA we have too much behind the scenes political fighting over who is going to provide and profit from it. Look at how long it took to adopt debit cards here. The UK and other countries had it for ages.

A couple of years ago I banked with someone that had NFC enabled debit cards.

I used it once or twice. It wasn't a lack of infrastructure, it was the dubious value add which gave no benefits over just swiping the card.

I don't care how many mcflurrys you eat a week, NFC as it is now is a gimmick. That might change in 5 years however.
