I have a friend who wants to trade me his new 3rd Generation Pro for my 2nd Generation Pro. Both are the 12.9” version. The caveat is that he would get my smart keyboard while I would have to go out and purchase one as he doesn’t have one. Both are the 512GB model.

His reasoning for the trade is that he’d like to go back to the 2nd gen because he doesn’t like face ID and would rather have touchID.

Any thoughts? I’m leaning towards it but not sure if it’s really worth doing with me having to buy the keyboard.

I think it’s worth it and wouldn’t even think about it twice, the third gen will have better overall resell value

If you're happy with what you've got, I see no reason to part with it. Even an offer that looks amenable from a purely technical standpoint might not be worth it. There are hidden (or, as you note, not so hidden) costs in almost everything.
