Thoughts on WP7. (iOS, Android and WP7)

I also have a WP7, the Samsung Focus, and it's spectacular. I could never switch to a droid device, and find the 'hub' design better than an iOS 'app' design.

I've seen text aliasing and font errors on other test fields but you are right, that is an image, not test. 😱 Any reason why IE has such an issue with rendering it?

On another note, I've just given the 14 day Zune pass a whirl and am enjoying it. Cheaper than Spotify too. 😀 Could be a keeper.

It really looks interesting. I'd love one to mess around with for a month or two.

If I had it my way, the next Nexus, an HTC Dual-core running Gingerbread, and a WP7 with Mango would be my ideal pick.

But then again, who needs three phones.

I want a phone that can dual boot between OSes. People do it with computer OSes all the time, why not phone OSes? I'd really like to try WP7, but love Android and not sure I want to give it up. But a phone that could dual boot? I'd be all over that.

Design them so they share contacts, music, photos, texts, etc, so you don't have to have 2 copies of everything. Best of both worlds.

Wish Nokia would support both WP7 and Meego. One of my friends has an N950 and in his own words the attention to detail of it is second only to iOS. If only Nokia had ditched Symbian and switched to Meego sooner.

It makes no difference. Meego is a dead-end at this point. Who's going to back it, finance its development, and build its ecosystem? Who's going to bother developing for it? We already have iOS, Android, WP7, WebOS. And at least one of these is already proving redundant.

Meego at this stage is pointless. Maybe interesting to talk about, for as long as it lasts.

Since it is unlikely you have ever used it, you have no right to be a part of the conversation, never mind to try and dictate what people talk about on forums.

Of course he hasn't tried it. He hasn't tried any of the mobile platforms that he spends all day trashing on MR. He admitted to that awhile back.

I might have tried a Nexus S recently and not mentioned it.

I might have tried a Playbook recently. Again, unless you're staring over my shoulder, you can't know what I did or didn't do.

I didn't say I like or dislike Meego. I have no opinion of it.

I said it's a dead-end at this point, whether I like it or don't like it. And probably for the foreseeable future. I like to mix my likes and dislikes with a bit of practical reality. I might actually like Meego but there's no point in getting too wedded to it when it's going the way of the dodo.

MS has introduced a platform that is *just adequate*, in which barely anyone is currently interested (it's been on the market for around 10 months and MS has actually lost share the entire time), in an already saturated market (about 2 years late.)

Note two salient features of this market:

- Obsession with Apple (this will not go away)
- Android established firmly in the universal-licensing end (pretty hard to dislodge)

At this point the market is pretty unforgiving when it comes to new entrants that fail to make big waves and gain traction early. Today, it appears you've got a few months' window of opportunity before you'll fall victim to Android on one end and iOS on the other. WP7's competitor is/will be Android.

If some of Google's legal troubles end up getting worse, you might see some vendors and perhaps consumers move to WP7, but that's still a stretch at this point.

Between my group friends all the OS's are covered. I know it's probably very hard for some to understand this, but every one has different devices based on their needs and desires.
Their are benefits and short comings to all of the devices.
Some in the group have moved from the iOS to android, some iOS to wp7 and couldn't be happier.
By far the iOS is the easiest out of the box.
Personally WP7 has some very good features.
One thing I really like about android is nearly all the reasons I jailbreak are covered under the regular os

Anyways WP7 has a future if Microsoft really wants it to. WP7 also clearly shows a lot of innovation. I think WP's future depends a lot on if Android can get more stable because at this time with Gingerbread I can tell you it has some major issues. As well as Android it depends on if Apple/Microsoft takes down Android on the legal field. And finally it depends on marketing.
If all 3 of these end in Microsoft's favor it will easily push WP into success.

I mean exactly that. With all 3 it will be easy, but without all three or with 1 or 2 they can still succeed with a bit more work.

Microsoft hasnt worked on pushing WP too much yet. My thought is they are waiting for Mango so they can literally go 1-1 on most features in iOS and Android and show their own merits on top of that.

I've just flashed the RTM build of Mango to my Omnia 7 thanks to XDA Developers forum.

Finally Internet Explorer plays nice with HTML5. Time to test more! 🙂

Not so much a change of mind. Just, always wanted a WP7 phone. Now that it's been a year with my Captivate, I'm kind of tired of it. And am looking for a new phone, so decided to try and find somebody to trade for a WP7 handset.

In October (Or whenever it comes out), I will be switching back to a Nexus Prime though. 😀 (What I'm saving my upgrade for)

Do not expect to get any upgrade discount on a nexus with AT&T. They just released works on AT&T 3G and first time you can even get one on contract so I would not hold my breath on a contract discount on the Prime. If we are lucky it will work on the 3G/ Fake G on AT&T but we have to by it off contract.

Oh no I know. My plan is to buy a GalaxyS2, and trade it in for a Nexus Prime when it gets released on an AT&T-compatible network. Since the Galaxy S2 is going for around $450-$500, it should just be a direct trade.


If not, buy the iPhone 5, trade that in for it. 😛
