Here's an interesting article.
Are people seriously this paranoid?
It could happen. Though not likely anytime soon in westernized democracies. It could and likely would happen in Iran, China, Libya, Vietnam &c.
I wouldn't really include Vietnam. They've become quite progressive. Same for certain parts of China.
1984. Something Apple once strived not to happen.
Agreed, apple has made some moves that are more big brother like and quite disconcerting.
people rare paranoid, its the same with location services. But if they could remotely shut off my camera i probably would get rid of my iPhone. Also with location services apple isn't directly tracking your location so its all good, its not like they will want to find you or giving it to others. As for the camera remote shut off i can see why in a concert they would want to do that but it probably never be implemented as everyone would have to have an iPhone. There are security there not just for teens trying to sneak in.
People are paranoid but once in a while that paranoia is well founded. I think this is one case where there is just cause to be concerned.
What's the point in trying to block the patent? The technology is there with or without a patent...and without a patent, any company would be free to include this feature in their phones.
+1. And Apple has a sheißload of patents, yet most of them aren't used (show me the MacBook dock shaped like an iMac with a hole in the side). I doubt this one will be used.
Exactly but it would be scary if it where included and paranoid or not i think this could hurt some privacy rights when used to record certain things i.e. they might develop the technology so when a certain amount of skin in shown in a video (e.g. a person in a swimmsuit) the video could be also blocked in regards to nudity or whateva would apply to that.
Don't worry, I am entirely against all kinds of censorship (except extreme cases such as child porn). It always is dangerous to hear about censorship measures, but as for now, nothing indicates that this will be implemented.
You made me remember an article about porn censoring I saw a few weeks ago... apparently searchers from South Korea (IIRC) have developped an algorithm that can block pornography by analyzing the sound, as visual techniques have been proven to be inefficient. Problem: what happens when the system scans a women's tennis match?
haha women's tennis match is a good one but lets not forget wrestling
Do not underestimate a western democracy's ability to turn authoritarian and become a menace to their own citizens.
