Just remember to report the spamming.

It's not like anyone should say that on-topic responses to an old thread shouldn't be there if the thread doesn't really have a time frame.

Obviously, if it's about the introduction of the original Mac mini, report the thing, but if it's about how many songs you have in your iTunes library, it should be fine.

While some subjects (in Community) do pop up every year or so, it's not always a bad thing since there are always new people around - and someone will always post a link to the old one so that we can see who's still around.

as vniow generously pointed out when I got some (good natured) banter for accidently starting a thread that was similar to one that was around two years ago. That was in Community too. Sometimes it's like looking for a needle in a haystack when there is a big gap in time, and the threads use different wording.

Back when I lurked prior to ever joining MR... the FAQ read that it was better to resurrect an existing thread than to create tons of new ones. I wonder where things stand now.

My duplicate thread got merged with the old one so guess that still applies.

Edit: Apologies, duplicated message when I edited it.

Anyone else annoyed by this and is there some unofficial policy for dealing with this sort of thing or something?

No I would actually encourage it. If it's an uninteresting topic nobody will respond and it will slip back into the depths.

It can sometimes be quite amusing actually :)

I agree. Depending on the motive and the subsequent direction of the thread, thread resurrection can potentially be annoying. If the discussion still stays within the scope of the thread topic and it either enlightening or entertaining (or both) then I'm not so bothered by it.

With that said, I also have noticed a lot of thread resurrections as of late.
